Hello everybody.
Jo went to AFL. Botanical blah blah blah
We have already done one blog but it got deleted!!! so here we go again.
Before our road trip we did a few must do's in Sydney. We wondered the Botanical Gardens for one last time, watch sunset over Sydney from the obserbatory as all the fruit batsleft the botanical gardens for a night of hunting, went to the opera house to see a chior call World Of Voices, Jo went to the AFL (George was working :(), We did our bridge climb and took Sarah for our last dinner together, followed by a visit to Star City.
We left Sydney for the 1000km trip to Melbourne stopping on the way at Narooma. Was very cold. Had a great pitch right next the beach and a great view of the sea. We snuggled into our sleeping bags and eco (the van) did a great job of keeping us warm.
The morning was dry but still very fresh. We had breakfast in the front of eco and watch a seal playing in the surf. We call the seal Celia. With still 700km to Melbourne we decided to hit the road.
We saw plenty of dead Kangeroos and wombats on the side of the road but so far have managed not to hit any! We drove though sun, rain and hail. But 9 hours later we arrived in Melbourne. Only to find the camp site we were going to stay at way closed! We decided to keep driving to the Great Ocean Road and spent our first night in the van on the side of the road. We were both a little worried we would get woken up during the night by a ranger and moved on. But before we new it it was morning again and although it was still very cold, the sun was shining. We decided to carry on driving the GOR to a campsite in Apollo Bay where we booked in a great site with warm showers and flushing toilets! The GOR is a spectacular drive with great views. We were on the lookout for whales but with no sightings so far we decided we should buy some binoculars. At the same time George bought a fishing rod. Hoping we'll catch come tea.
The next morning we drove back along the GOR to Melbourne to the campsite which was now open. On the way we stopped at Lorne to do some fishing but didn't even get to the end of the jetty before deciding it was way too cold! The campsite in Melbourne was about 30mins bus ride from the site.
In Melbourne we rode the tram, walked the botanical gardens, went to market and bought a scarf! eat at china town then ventured to Crown Complex. The Crown Complex was like walking into a cruise ship. There were dancing fountains and light shows in the enterence, Cinemas, Very expensive shops, Casino, Restaurants, night clubs and much more. All under one WARM roof. We went to the Cinema and saw 'Angels and Demons' then wondered around the Casino. After we went outside for the fire show (every hour) this was very good.
We liked Melbourne but it wasthe cold ment we didn't stay as long as we hoped. So the next day we jumped in Eco and drove to Ramsey Street. Didn't see any stars but there are some pictures on the blog.
We did the 700km drive to Narooma again and arrived about 7pm. No campsites open again, so another night on the street. In the morning we drove to Javis bay. This is a national park so we had to pay $10 entry for 48 hour. When we got to the beach it was so beautiful we decided to stay a night in the campsite (this was covered in the $10). We tried a bit of fishing but no catches so we went to the shop to get some food. We then joined our new friends Katelyn and Brad buy the BBQ to cook dinner. This is where we encountered our first Possum. They were very used to people and quite happy to jump up and try and take food from the table. But after a few wrestling matches we managed to cook and eat dinner. We then retired just before the rain arrived.
The morning wet so we drove the last 200km to Sydney. On the way we stopped at Kiama to see the blow hole. This is a water cave that the sea rushes into the sprays up into the air. It was worth stopping at but maybe not for long. We then dropped in on Sarah to cook a well needed Roast Dinner!
Next stop Port Macquarie...
Hope all is well xxxxxxxxxx
