Joanna's Travels
Hello everyone! Its monday morning here, and what a beautiful day!! Think I had better just go and sit on the beach and read a book or write in my diary or swim accross to the little island opposite the beach here: to top up my tan... or maybe all of the above..... aahhhh the life of a traveller!!!
I am so glad I did this and came out here - I have met so many lovely people. Everyone is so friendly and it seem sreally easy to make friends. I really had no need to be as worried as I was! So thank you to everyone who told me not to worry - you were right!
Been having lots of fun - went out on Friday night as everything is open until 2am (other days bars etc are only open til midnight, and you cany buy alcohol from shops on sundays!). Watched the rugby (I heart Richie McCaw!) and then went to an open air disco under th stars!!
On Saturday Dannii and I were going to ride into town to go to the market and had offered to take two new friends with us on the back of our bikes! Ofer put his life in my hands and rode with me, and Henry was on the back of Dannii's bike.... we started to ride and there was the a torrential downpour! We all got soaked and then it started to hail so we had to take shelter (the island is only 32km all the way round, so it was only going ot take about 10 mins to get into town!!), then it turned out to be glorious, and we havent had any rain since!! The ride was good, although we didnt cover having anyone on the back of the bike in the test, so I was a bit nervous.... but no accidents - even though we had to dodge falling coconuts!!
The rest of saturday was spent on the beach.... blue skies, turquoise seas, white sands and palm trees!!!
Sunday morning we went to church! They love it when the locals turn up and gave us a free lunch afterwards!! Mmm....
The rest of sunday was spenty on the beach too... I think you can see a theme here!!!
Today, we hope to do some snorkeling as the water is SO clear here and there are lots of pretty fish to look at. Unfortunatley there are also sea cucumbers (also known affectionately as 'sea poos') which you have to avoid stepping on, as we thought they were a vegetable but then we saw one with some guts spilling out, so i think they may be alive....???!!! gross!!! There are also some weird cute little slugs that spurt out purple ink when you step on them - I will try and take a photo!!
I hope to put my photos on soon - there is no way to do it at the hostel here, so I may have to wait until I get to Auckland to do that....
Hope youre all having a lovely time at home and that the wetaher is still good.
Lots of love,
Jo xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
