Apologies first can´t download any photos from this destination. Have cycled now 285 miles in England and a further 100 in Spain and have reached a small town called Estella. It is fiesta weekend so we decided to stay at a really good campsite surrounded by mountains in the Navarra region. I hasten to add that we have had to cycle over those mountains to get here and this is probably why we have only cycled 100 miles. These hills(mountains 850 m picture to follow as proof) could be the death of me yet if it wasn´t for the fantastic downhills that can go on for miles and miles. And if isn´t the mountains it could be the heat - this was the unknown quantity and the day we arrived in Bilbao was 40 degrees a bit of a shock to the system after the cold wet and windy weather in England.
Hey girls I have also found the ultimate diet. Bit drastic I know but I am seriously having to force any food down (I never thought I would ever hear myself saying that but htis amount of exercise is having serious consequences for all that blubber I´ve been carrying, Tripps I have to say is fairing well) and am already finding that my clothes are decidedly loose. Developing the tan very nicely and generally feeling in tiptop condition.
Although we are not getting through the mileage that we had originally intended because of the heat and the mountains - we feel that we are making steady progress and we always said that we would go at the speed we are most comfortable with.
Visited the Guggenheim building in Bilbao on Wednesday morning it is a most amazing building and changes aspect throughout the course of the day as the light plays on it - Ian you would find it really interesting.
Thought of the NK crowd when we passed an empty building with void, void, void painted all over it in Bilbao - hope the stats are still adding up don´t want to let those targets slip too much.
We saw whales and dolphins swimming alongside the ferry on the way over to Spain. Lynn - we didn´t get stuck on the ferry (it was the pride of Bilbao) the Bay of Biscay was as smooth as a mill pond I don´t know how you managed to get an extra 2 days on board. best wishes to all at the ASC offices from Phil.
Cycle lanes over here are in abundance and motorists appear to be much more tolerant of cyclists and by the way cycling seems to be a popular pastime in this area with cycling groups all over - they even practice over the mountains puts our training in Lincolnshire and the coast to coast in the shade somewhat
Anyway time is ticking away I hope I will be able to upload the pictures next time but bye for now. Love to everybody. Jo and Tripps signing off for now.
