So i'm in Brazil now in Rio De Janerio. I have been here a week and a half now and am staying in a house, shared with a few people, and its up a very very big hill!! Its an effort and a half to come home everyday!! Other than a LOT of exersise I have so far visited the beaches and the famous Copacabana, but it didn't live up to it's name as it was raining and there was not a thong in sight!!
We were drenched in floods the other day, I so did't expect that from Rio! But then someone reminded me that we are fairly close to the rain forests, and it is in fact rainy season! But it is still summer and it is still hot, so I am building up a nice little tan.
Well, the reason I came to Rio to help with the carnival projects. We are working with a samba school called Mangueira they are one of the 12 best samba schools in the carnival.
The 12 best schools produce their costumes and floats for the carnival in big wearhouses named Samba City. This is where we are working with them. We go in Monday to Wednesday, and have a long weekend free. There we are helping with the costumes at the minute. It does sound exciting but it is just really cutting and glueing! But it is good watching the creations come to life.
Anyway, without going on too much, if you are interested in the carnival and will be watching, you will be able to see the costumes I have helped with on Monday 23rd Feb scheduled for 1:20am rio time.
We have been tolld that we will be able to take part in the carnival with Imperio da tijuca, this is a second division samba school, which takes part in the carnival on Saturday 21st. It is cheaper with a second division group as the costumes are cheaper to produce. So fingers crossed this will happen and you'll be able to see me, amongst others stutting my stuff down the sambadrome!!!
