Another early morning train took us to Singapore on the 13th. This was the cleanest and most orderly city we have seen - especially strange as it was still in Asia!!! Our hostel was brand new and everything was immaculate - a welcome bit of luxury. After checking in it was time to get some food. As we were staying in the Little India area of the city we found a restaurant serving a typical British dish...Tikka Masala. We hadn't quite realised how much we'd missed Indian curries!
On the 14th we spent the entire day at the Zoo. We left the hostel at 11am and returned after midnight! It was amazing there. A lot of the animals were completely free to roam but seemed quite content to chill out in their trees. We saw polar bears and jaguars being fed and watched a couple of trained animal shows. We were disappointed to see that the White Tiger enclosure was shut but a camera crew were filming something there. We later found out what had happened....The day before a Malaysian cleaner that worked at the zoo had been acting strangely and making remarks to people like "this is the last you'll see of me!" He climbed into an alligator enclosure and started poking them with his broom. After failing to get a satisfactory response from them he climbed into the tigers, put a bucket on his head and started crawling around. Confused tourists were watching, thinking it was part of a show until they pounced and mauled him to death.
That evening we left the zoo and Dan tried a fish spa. You sit with your feet in the water and let hundreds of little fish nibble and suck the dead skin etc away! Very weird sensation!
We then walked around to the Night Safari. It was incredible. We saw a lot of the same animals but this time in the dark when they were less aware of our presence.
From here, our next stop - Australia!!!!
