Not too keen to jump out of bed but we did! Had to work the magic to get everything back into the luggage ready for the flight home.
Rundle Mall welcomed us at just after 10 am and with luggage safely deposited with the Concierge we did a little stroll around the Mall. It was magnificent even under grey skies threatening rain. Sprawling wide "street", lots of statutes, a quirky combination of old and new, all the sparkling glassy regulars (Pandora, Swarovski, Apple Store), people strolling at a leisurely pace - but none of the shops were open. Apparently we were a little early for a Sunday morning because Adelaide city doesn't open until 11.
Adelaide Arcade was calling us anyway. It was beautiful and ornate and there was a steady stream of early birds heading in and out. Located "just the spot" for breakfast tucked inside the arcade, took the "last seat" and indulged in a BIG mug of coffee and totally scrumptious (and oversized) eggs benedict.
The cold and rain dampened our shopping enthusiasm just a little and totally ignoring the Haigh chocolate shop on the return journey, we called it quits and headed for the airport. A simple check-in process had us ready for the flight "way early" but with a little bit of "reading and writing" catchup to do, it wasn't long before we were high above the storm clouds of Adelaide and heading home to sunny Queensland.
Actually loved the landing in Brisbane. The Gateway was distinctive and easy to pick but it was the reflection of the full moon that chased us down the length of the Brisbane River as we landed, that provided the welcome sparkle for our arrival home.
Couldn't help laughing when we opened the door at Daisy Hill because there was the slightly bedraggled but stoic "60" helium balloon doing its best to stay afloat- was definitely symbolic! Top that off with the rip and tear associated with opening the SENIORS CARD and, despite two weeks of everyone telling Mac he doesn't look even "nearly 60", maybe, just maybe, he has had enough confirmation that he really is older.
And of course, everything at home was perfect (thanks @Mindy&Ian and @AuntyGail&Paul).
The best thing for me is that I can just toddle off to work early tomorrow morning and leave all the domestic bliss of shopping and cooking, unpacking and washing to the 60 year old.
Is it too early to ask @SharynBleakley and @WJMac to plan the next one? No idea where it might be but they have plenty of time to hatch something incredible. The lady in the seat next to us on the flight home was sharing that return flights to the US are "$800 and something" at the moment (@Mindy&Ian + Hawaii could be possible) and was raving about the "Un-cruise Cruises." I checked that concept out - may have missed our "prime" on that one (the ad says "for those who prefer flippers to slippers" - ahh, not likely!). But who knows.
PS Happy 60th Birthday Mac. Trust that this little book is a best seller in your eyes. Love you always. Me xo
PPS Thanks to @Richard&Loraine for adding so much to this Aussie adventure - both in person and virtually! Loved it. Hope we can get our organization right for a "next one."
PPPS Just declaring early that for my 70th I would like to visit India and especially would like to be at Taj Mahal for 7th. For Mac's 70th ......??..... no idea, but he does have a little more time to think about that one.
