So long, Halong Bay!
What a place of stunning beauty! It's houseboating on the Shuswaps but with awesome craggy limestone mountains jutting up helter skelter throughout the aqua water.
I can't believe how many times we said, "Oh My God, look at that!" the teak ship was beautiful. It was an Indochina Sails. Their largest ship in their fleet sand truly impressive. Very upscale with terrific seafood meals. Our first lunch buffet was outstanding with scrumptious flaky spring rolls and fresh herb filled salad rolls that Stefan would have died for!
We stopped and people could choose to clomp to the top of an island for a fantastic view. It was 200 steps up so Mom declined and relaxed in the cool 38c shade! Terry and I made the climb. I NEED to work out!! Anyway, I made it and the view was all they said it would be.
I was never so happy to plunge into the lovely warm ocean after that little climb! Mom joined us and it was divine to wallow in the water like a water buffalo and catch my breath. ( Mom and I are seriously feeling like water buffalo around all these petite men and women!) :)
We spent a lovely evening on the ship and retired to our suites which had the BEST thing on the whole ship - FroZen air con. Heavenly! Cool smooth 600 thread sheets after a truly great shower experience! with a stunning view passing before our eyes through the full wall length windows, and BOTH of us (and mom in her suite) with good books! Sheer decadence!
We woke up early for delicious Vietnamese drip coffee which Mom loves as much as we do, and went to explore the Surprise Caves. Again, stunning! had Dai all to ourselves as a tour guide because the Tawainese group had their own guide. He was great. Mom stayed back and waved us off from her stateroom balcony- just like the queen!
We are heading back to Hanoi for one more night at the Hanoi 3 Elegance Sapphire! The 3.5 hour drive was good - just trust the driver, they seem to know what they are doing and enjoy the countryside and towns along the way!

Ray and Colette Hi everybody, It is great to see all the pictures of all of you!! It looks like Mom (Madeleine) has gained 10 years of youth, not going the other way! Those 200 steps made me shiver! Dad is planning to go to Spain. He bought new running shoes today and he does not have to make any reservations for the Bull Run! You all look so happy and we are happy you are all having so much fun in this lovely country.
Juanita Halong bay is breathtaking isn't it? Did you go kayaking too? Is Madeline's scarf keeping you cool? I got mine in the mail the other day so thank her for me!!!! You are all looking as cool as cucumbers in the picture. I am imagining you took as soon as yet stepped out on deck!!!! Can't wait to hear more. Juanita
Tricia Hi Anuty, It looks like you all are having a wonderful time. Your mom looks great and you and uncle look so relaxed. Stay safe, Tricia
