The second we touched down in Lovely Luang Pra Bang, we could tell we were going to love it! The air was slightly cooler and the people at the airport were lovely. Although, it was interesting to see that Canadians pay the highest Visa fee -42.00!
We had precooked the Villa Somphong and it was quite nice with a delicious breakfast with hot fresh bread, BUT - the beds were rock hard and poor Mom could not sleep even for short nap. We set her up on a 'pillow bed' made of our three pillows and she good to go. But we moved to a place Terry found on one of his 'reconnoitering walks' he takes every now and then. The 'chitdara 2' was lovely and well recommended AND the beds were soft!
We set out for the Kuong Si Falls the next day and enjoyed seeing all the villages along the 30 minute ride. We saw the Bear Rescue center, with the bears having a relaxing time hanging out in Their hammocks. we eagerly set out for the falls as the forest was beautiful. The second we hit the first small fall- we were hit with a monsoon! It was unbelievable! It was such a deluge we could NOT SEE! seriously, the people were trying in vain to take cover under these giant trees, but it was useless. we quickly dug out Terry's hat for mom so she could open her eyes and we decided to go back as the clay path was treacherous. Our trusty Keens were put to the task, but mom and I can't believe what a great grip they have.
We took shelter by the bear center and it lightened up a bit. We were sopping wet so we just walked home dripping and bedraggled. All you could do was laugh. A banana leaf hat worked well to keep the water out of my eyes!
We decided to recover some part of the day by going to their Cultural Center and having a traditional dinner with a dancing show. well there were only FIVE tables of diners in a place that could hold three hundred easily. It was a grand and breathtaking set up. Too bad there were no guests. Anyway as we were looking all around us at the beautiful open air buildings, mom who always looks where she is walking, stepped right into one of the sunken in table holes! she disappeared from our view completely! Oh my Lord, we thought she broke a leg for sure! But with her quick reflexes she grabbed the table, caught herself ( although she whipped off the tablecloth and sent two pitchers of water flying!) and if you can Believe it, didn't even really hurt herself! Although, I did NOT LAUGH when she first fell, once we knew she was Super-Mom, and OK, we had quite the hard laugh about her disappearing act!
We watched the show and ate the meal which we all declared mediocre, (except we discovered Luang Pra Bang Salad!) and fought hard not to fall asleep. (we were still all dead tired at 6:00 pm and waking up at 2:30 am.)

Michelle Jan you are too funny. As I read this I can hear your voice and see your facial expressions. I was laughing at your rain soaked morning at the bear rescue place and you had me going OH! when I was reading about Aunt M. falling into the table hole and then laughing about it after. I'm glad to hear she is okay and that you are all having a great time.
Chris My goodness...I know, Jan, that you and Terry are returning in one piece but I am worried about Madelaine. I really enjoy the stories and am continually amazed by the trials and tribulations and how your Mom bounces back. As an aside, aren't monkeys kinda aggressive. I was scared when I saw them hanging onto you!
