Well we had quite the adventure with the monkeys today! Mom was very much looking forward to seeing them, but we warned her that they are so cute and that they bite.
We bought the bananas and all was good. Cute and entertaining monkeys everywhere and she was having a great time watching them groom each other, babies nursing, and young teens being silly! The temples in this jungle were once again amazing with giant monkey stone statues everywhere.
As we were leaving mom saw a large monkey sitting with his feet resting on a man's lap! She was determined that she would have a monkey visit her as well. One on the attendants told her not took at the monkeys, so she sat quietly and studiously looked away. Two seconds later I hear, "Jan!" and sure enough we see a monkey run across her lap! she moved over to a fountain where there was a family perched nearby. As she looked away a young monkey jumped
On her head! Terry tried to protect her earring, but the monkey was patting her face and head. She is loving this of course, but Terry was worried and keeping a close eye on her. All was good though and people were gathering around mom and laughing at the monkey's antics and mom' obvious amusement.
Terry sat down to see what would happen to him and sure enough, once again the monkey jumped on his head too! it really stayed on his head and was playing with his ear and face as well. The guide told Terry lot get up and walk. The monkey rode for a bit then jumped off.
I thought i should then give it a turn as well. I love monkeys , but hesitated as we saw last time we were in Bali how they could be quite mean and bite.
I sat down and immediately the teenager jumped over onto my shoulder and pulled at the earring I was wearing (mom's favorite pair) and actually got it off. He ran back to the far side of the branch to inspect his prize. I put my hand out to him and if you can believe it (I was actually speaking to a monkey!) I said,"give that back to me!"
He didn't. In fact he pulled the earring away further with one hand and then Slapped my outstretched hand! It even made a clacking sound! He took off running.
I Gave chase, again, seriously? What did I think- I was going to catch him?
anyway, the guide said -stop, leave it be. Then he gave the monkey a candy. The monkey immediately threw away the earring and went for the candy!
So end of story, weGot the earrings back, I bent it back into shape and we went home with sore cheeks from
Laughing so much!
(ps- I put the earrings in my pockets and ended up sending then
pants to the Laundry and they never came back! Boo hoo. Poor Mom!
On the way out, mom made friends with another monkey who jumped onto her lap and opened her purse, reached down into some compartments and pulled out a Kleenex!
