Day 30 - Pai
Today was illness day, spent lying in bed and being sick every now and then.
Day 31 - Pai
Had a relaxing day today to make sure we are all healthy! When I got up I was finally feeling okay but very hungry as I'd barely eaten since two days ago! So I got up and went and had soup and a sandwich for lunch. were planning to leave Pai that day, but we can stay one more! We can't seem to leave this place :P we went for dinner and then afterwards Michael went back to the room while us girls went for foot massages and pedicures. All for £3, who can complain! The girls are leaving Pai early tomorrow so having an early night tonight as they have lots of travelling, so after yesterday's illness we are doing the same!
Day 32 - Pai
Today we were woken around 8am by the sound of thunder and heavy rains. We dozed through it and the next thing we heard was nic chapping our door telling us to pack our backs quickly. We looked behind her and found out why - the riverfront bungalows we had chosen were quickly being taken over by the river! The heavy rains had caused the river banks to burst, and it was rapidly flooding out of control. So we started throwing things in out bags and the hotel owner come round telling us we had five minutes max to be out - by this point he was in ankle deep water. Nic and Lynsey were leaving Pai to catch a flight from Chiang Mai later that night, so decided to go get the first bus they could just incase they stopped them running. By this point the water was too high for them to come to our room and say bye, so we shouted good bye to each other over the floods. A couple of minutes later Michael and I put our bags on and got out, by this point the water was half way up to our knees. It was full of mud, snails, water spiders and god knows what else so was quite a rank experience! So we were given our money back for the nights we had paid for and not been able to stay and headed onto higher ground to find another hotel for the night. We got one and dumped our stuff then went out for some lunch and to relax after the stress of being evacuated. I had put all our clothes into be washed at a shop next to our flooded hotel a d was supposed to pick them up, so I went to go collect them after lunch. By this point the river had flooded the whole street, including the laundry shop which I bad to wade through thigh deep water to get into. Unfortunately, there was no one there, and we didn't know where our laundry was. So today was spent hiding from the weather in the hotel room mostly. We eventually managed to get our laundry back and had some dinner before heading through the heavy rain to the Internet cafe. We spent two hours on skype to the family and then went back to bed.
