Day 20 - Bangkok
Today our plan was to go to Siam square - a huge shopping area which has attached an aquarium and a wax works museum and lots of other things - if Michael was feeling up to it. We woke up and he felt absolutely fine so we decided to go ahead with it. So we got up, went for lunch, and decided to go to the Internet before we left.'we were planning to get the night bus to Chiang Mai later so wanted to check times and book somewhere to stay. So we took an hour to do that and then, just as we were about to leave, a monsoon hit! It was crazy rain, and it was thundering. So that was our plans stopped because all the Thai people disappeared! We finally got a hold of Nicola during the rain and she was close by, so we decided on somewhere to meet and made a run for it. It was lovely to see her and her sister! We sat inside a bar chatting for ages about what we've all been up to since we left home. They are coming to Chiang Mai tomorrow too so will get to spend some time with them! We had been trying to do a bit of shopping for a couple of days so decided to have a look in a couple of the stalls on the way home since it was still pouring. I bought a tshirt and a sarong and Michael didnt see anything he liked. Turns out my tshirt is supposed to be for men, so is way too big haha and Michael likes it so he will be getting that. We had a quick dinner from the street stalls - pad Thai and spring rolls for two, cooked fresh in front of you, for £2. Can't complain. Then we got a taxi to the bus station. The taxi driver didn't want to put the meter on, he was saying he would charge us 300baht (£6). But we felt like we were being ripped off so insisted on the meter and sure enough, it came to a total of 95baht (£1.90). We hadnt been able to book the bus online so went hoping there would be seats available. There was a first class VIP bus with two available seats leaving in 30 mins. It cost £12 each but it was a ten hour journey and it really was luxury. Our seats folded right down into beds and we got some food and water, and blankets. So we got comfy on the bus and fell asleep!
