Day 36 - Vang Vieng
We got up and ate our leftover pizza for breakfast while we packed up our bags. Vientiane was a nice place, but for a capital city there's not much going on. So we decided not to hang around and booked the 2pm bus to Vang Vieng. It was a very hot day so we sat in an air con cafe drinking fruit shakes until it was time for the bus. Again, there was chaos when it came to getting on the bus and we left about 40 minutes late. Starting to think we should get used to this. The bus journey was nice, there was some lovely scenery on the way. Unfortunately this was ruined by a bunch of steaming drunk English guys drinking at the back of the bus, singing loudly and asking to stop for a pee every half an hour. They passed out after 4 hours and we had the last half an hour in peace! When we got to Vang Vieng out first impressions where not great. It was full of half naked and drunk British people. We decided to walk to the river and try and get a nicer hotel. We found a decent place for £5 a night, dumped our stuff and went out for dinner. All the bars have tv screens playing friends and family guy on loop. They have beds instead of seats so these bars are full of hungover people and the rest are full of drunk people. We sat and had our dinner while watching friends (the one with the holiday armadillo). We then decided to go for drinks, and struggled to find a decent place. Apparently most of the bars sell joints, and practically all of them smelled like it! So we found a nice quiet bar and had a drink or two while deciding if we want to stay in Vang Vieng or not. After a couple we were feeling a bit deflated so went home to bed.
