Day 42 - Luang Prabang

We checked out of our hotel at 12, and had to wait until 5 for our bus to vietnam. It was pouring of rain and since we had no where to go to dry off, I ended up with a cold. We spent some time in a bar playing pool then went for some food before we got on the bus. The bus to Vietnam is 24 hours, so we booked a sleeper bus. There are beds instead of seats, the top half can be folded up to make a seat. They weren't the comfiest things but we thought it would be okay for one day. Unfortunately, we didn't have any Laos money, we had changed it all to Vietnam money, so when we found out it would be more than half the way to Vietnam, we realised we wouldnt be getting any dinner. We stopped off for everyone else to have dinner and we had to look on in envy feeling hungry! By the morning when we crossed the Vietnam border (which took 2 hours!) we were starving. 20 hours after we'd last eaten we finally got some rice with disgusting chicken. Probably the worst meal we have had but when your that hungry, who cares. The 24 hours came and went, and we were still nowhere near Hanoi. Thanks to a landslide which we had to wait at until a space was dug through for us to drive, and the fact that in asia they never run on time, we arrived in Hanoi after 29 hours on a bus. So we were seriously cranky! We found our hotel, had a shower and went to bed!
