yesterdays blog post did not work out well on my phone, so i am covering two days here.
Wednesday started out rough. we brought most of our money in travelors checks, and none of the banks wanted to cash them, not even hsbc. after walking for miles in the banking district we found that the national bank of panama will cash 200 per day. we later found a check cashing store that will cash the for four percent.
we ate lunch at a local restaurant with panamanian cusine. it was very good, and we both ate for 10 bucks including my beer.
later wednesday we went shopping at the downtown mall. we picked up a couple of things including a pair of shoes for me.
that night we ate at a local cafe that was very average and finished at the casino. we found that casinos will also cash our checks, that is so nice of them.
on to Thursday. we woke up at went to banco de national to cash more checks. after that we purchased sonme fresh fruit for 50 cents and found a taxi which spoke english. we hired him for the day at 47 dollars. he took us to casco viejo the old city. we walked around and took pictures. we ate lunch at a very nice cafe that served a 5 course meal for 8 dollars, which is expensive ias far as panama food goes.
next we went to the zoo. the zoo is very different from american zoos. very much more land in the panamanian zoo, and the animals are more accesible. the only thing standing between us and a 12 foot crock was a chain link fence. we could actually feed and touch the monkeys. that jungle trees were pretty amazing as well.
after the zoo we came back and took a nap. after a nice long nap we went to a salso restaurante and bar. we ate and drank, and then the band started. the band played several american and uk songs mixed with latino hits.
some interesting notes
english is not spoken well by very many people here. we rarely see americans outside of the casino. we truly feel immersed in the culture of pcp, which is a different experience for us.
on to the albrook mall the largest in this small country.
i typed this on my phone, and i am sure it is full of mistakes.
