We took an afternoon trip to Nara, about 1 hr away from Osaka. Nice little town with a huge Buddhist temple. The building is said to be the largest wooden building in the world. The large park it is in has a huge population of very tame deer that just wander around. Liz and I wandered all around the park, which contained many separate shrines and a huge bell. The information center also informed us that this weekend they hang 3000 lanterns along the walkways in the park, and light up the mountainside. We were glad then that we'd gotten here mid-afternoon, because the temperatures are still near 45 degrees and it would've been a long wait to nightfall. As it was it was perfect. It was really a nice special way to end the day. We also tried and enjoyed a green tea ice cream cone, and stopped for a burger at our first McD's. I was surprised when I went upstairs and found a piano.
