hello friends,
started my trip sometime yesterday afternoon, a slow start, as per usual. its ok though, i got alot of driving done in the parts of texas where i've already been/its so boring that the pitch black of night is as entertaining as whats going on during the day. at least at night there isn't as much traffic. i feel bad for the gas station owner on I-10 who has to work the night shift...but he charges 2.50 for a gallon so i can't feel too bad for him.
sunrise is freaking fantastic in texas though
not getting through el paso before traffic started was a mistake, i guess there are some non-drug dealers going to work in the morning. looking over I-10 is sort of depressing though, its mostly shanty towns...if i was a street kid in juarez i would imagine that drugs to forget life + drug dealing to get away from the street would probably be the best options i could see too, so i don't really blame them. i hear that alot of troops are going to go to the border and there is going to be a new drug czar who is supposedly going to try to figure out a way to prevent all the violence happening on the border.....you want a solution to violence? legalize it. legitimate businessmen rarely resort to actual physical violence, and when they do they are normally cought
anyways, driving along has sort of made me depressed about the existance that the majority of the country is living....that being that its literally the same thing over and over. every person can shop at the exact same stores in the same clusters of strip malls that repeat themselves over and over throughout the country. while i can appreciate that in a free market alot of people want the same thing, but at the same time it seems like life becomes pretty meaninless once everyone shares the same set of material experiences, and so while there are some places that are limited to one building, or even a few shops like buffalo exchange or something, once the majority of consumers have bought into the idea that the mass market is the best way to go, eveyrone just becomes the same. i dunno. troubling.
anyways, white sands is freaking amazing. like i was on the moon or something.....
so i admit that i wish i had more to say and i realy did think about alot in this first day on the trip but i kept forgeting to keep a notepad besides me so i could jot down whatever ideas come to my head in the car and then elaborate on them later.
HOLY CRAP. i should have had one of you people that are technologically savvy find/make me a blog that is easy to deal with. i spent the first 2 hours this morning trying to figure out why none of my pictures would upload. o well
more thoughts later.
o yes, and i hope you all enjoyed the candy!
