While Peter was fishing on Saturday I had a lazy day to myself sitting by the pool and reading. I walked to the local eateries at lunch time and had some Cao Lau which is a local noodle dish and came back for more time at the pool. Peter was home fairly early and told me of his adventures while we continued to cool off by the pool. At dinner time we wandered to the same place I had eaten lunch.
On Sunday morning we caught the boat shuttle into town and were dropped off near the central market. While walking along we were talked to by a couple of nice ladies who ended up taking us to their shoe stall. I ended up buying a nice pair of sandals for $13 - they would be ready in the afternoon. After that we had to go to her friend's souvenir stall and of course had to buy something. After what seemed like hours in heavy negotiation I asked about another eating place called Phuong Banh Mi which sells the local sandwiches or baguettes and she took us around the corner to there. We had a Banh Mi each - fresh baguette, coriander, pâté, fried egg and chilli paste - $1 each! Amazing! After enjoying this we walked back along the river street and caught a boat back to our hotel which cost us about $2.50.
For dinner we intended to go to a restaurant near Morning Glory but found it was over priced so we walked along the river street and found a nice place to eat. It was called Lowland, again well reviewed in Trip Advisor. We had a lovely dinner of spring rolls, a pork clay pot and a fish clay pot. The food was delicious!
This morning we sat by the river in our resort and watched some of the mornings's river traffics before heading into the central market area and Phuong Banh Mi again. It seems hotter today and I was drenched by the time we got there. The ladies were fanning me and trying to cool me down - perhaps they thought I might pass out? The Banh Mi was great again and have us the energy for the walk back. Of course the pool was waiting for us so we spent the afternoon there and intend to go back to Lowland for dinner tonight.
Tomorrow we head to Cambodia and start the next part of our adventure. We've enjoyed our days here at Vinh Hung Resort and have had a lovely rest.
