We left Melbourne early this morning and flew to Queenstown, coming in alongside the Remarkables mountain range. If ever there was a chance for the pilot to hit a mountain, this would be the place! Queenstown was laid out beneath us, nested along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. We stayed in a lovely hotel just above the town, walking distance to the town centre. Everything is hilly and there are people everywhere but this would have to be some of the most spectacular scenery we have seen in a long time.
We wandered down into town and had a lovely meal at a pub called Chico's. It was above the mall and we enjoyed the breeze coming in the windows and watching people walk by.
On Sunday morning we got up and walked through the gardens on the shores of the lake, lovely scenery all the way. Following this we got on the Skylift up to the top of the mountain and watched people riding the luge and parasailing down the mountain.
We headed both and stopped at Arrowtown for lunch. This is a lovely little town beside a river and has many historic buildings. We continued North to our destination for the next week - Wanaka.
