We arrived in Singapore on June 2nd late at night.
On the 3rd we had a walk down the main road in Singapore called Orchard road. There are over 50 malls on the street, which pleased me no end, so we had a look round them. Stopped for some lunch in our first proper asian restaurant and it was gorgeous, however the menu had all the normal things that we get at the Chinese at home which I was surprised about. In the evening we went on the Night Safari. You go round a huge outdoor park on a small train and can get off in the middle for a look around. Think the anteater was my favourite, lol. Went to see a show with the animals in it, thought it was a bit cruel though so we left.
We headed to Chinatown on the morning of the 4th and had a look round all the street markets. Most of the Chinatown's that we have visited have been very similar and so we didnt stay very long. We headed to little India. Think you can smell all the spices a mile away, lol. We had a look round and stopped in an Indian restaurant for lunch. Again, similar to the Chinese in that the menu was very similar to that you would find in a good Indian at home. In the afternoon we went to the area in Singapore called Bugis and had a alk round it looking at the markets.
The 5th we headed to the Harbourfront in Singapore and got a cable car over the water to Sentosa Island. Got lovely views of the city from the cable car, however there is a lot of building work going on in Singapore and so a lot of the landscape is filled with building yards. Sentosa was nice, although very touristy. We had a walk around and found a walkway which had a huge waterfall going down it and was made from mosaic, it was lovely. We then got the cable car back over to the mainland and headed to Raffles. Raffles is a posh hotel in Singapore famous for its Singapore Sling cocktail. We went in and had a cocktail in the long bar. It was a tad strange as in the bar every table is given a bowl of nuts and then the shells are dropped on the floor, so the floor is a bit of a mess, lol. Afterward, we went on the Singapore Flyer, it is the largest wheel in the world and lasts half an hour. Again we got brilliant views over the city, despite all the building work. in the evening we met a relative in a Thai restaurant at the far end of Orchard Road. The food was lovely and they have a restaurant in London, so i'll need to go in next time i'm there.
Our last full day in Singapore was Saturday 5th and we just had a wander around places we had already senn in the city. We met the group which we will be travelling through Malaysia and Thailand with. There are only five of u in this group (six including the leader), so it should be different to the other group trips we have taken.
