Ive always loved Canada. Not just because Its where majority of my family lives, but because its a beautiful country... far better the the US in many ways... Next summer if i don't make it back to up to Alaska, I plan to travel across the country, from east to west. Ive actually been planning that little expedition for quite awhile now, and i'm excited to actually put it into motion. But i can elaborate on that later.
My dear cousin Victor is what brought us to Guelph, On this time around. I feel lucky that i even got in contact with him and his sister Nicky a little over a year ago thanks to the internet. I hadn't seen them since i was 12 years old, and my Grandma was alive living in Sault St. Marie. Id go stay with her every year during the summer and Victor and Nicky would be around there too. My Grandma would take us to the casino and make delicious home made Polish food, god i miss her. But, ever since she passed away i lost contact with a lot of my family. Hectic life starts to steer us and take over and before you know it 13 years flew by like nothing. I never once forgot any of my family, and it always weighs in the back of my mind that i lost contact, i longed for the day we'd all reunite and begin to form some kind of bond again. When i received the invite for his wedding I couldn't have been more happy! I anticipated for months over the day I'd leave to head there. Its a wonderful yet scary feeling... Not seeing anyone in so long, and being the only one from Michigan to go meet some familiar faces at the same time meet faces I've never seen before whose part of my family!
We left on Friday the 15th. I'm already get chills just passing customs. Something about entering into another country, some things are the same, but more things are different and exciting to me. Like their beautiful money or the way they talk... The ways businesses are ran and its truly just a different culture in general that I've grown to love since i was 5 years old (the furthest back i can remember) I was just sitting back in the passenger seat looking out the window taking it all in, truly relaxing. It was about a 6 hour drive to Guelph, we arrived at our hotel around 8pm. Six hours may not sound long, but after that long of a drive a hotel never sounds better! We unpacked and left again to explore the area and find a good restaurant. We checked out a local thrift store, it had a lot of cool things, but was way overpriced so we didn't get much. Then we went and had dinner at a restaurant across from he hotel called Crabby's. They had one of the best veggie burgers ever! We had to call the waitress and make sure these huge delicious burgers were actually veggie! it was funny... and i tried my first Molsen Canadian beer which was very tasty, i enjoyed it a lot. After a long day we head back to the hotel to end a wonderful day and start the next soon after.
Victor and Elissa's wedding was at 2pm on Saturday. We got all dressed up and headed that way. What a beautiful place to get married! As we walk in the door i feel very welcomed and everyone specially Victor is exited to see me! I was so overwhelmed with excitement! We talked and laughed and hugged it was great! The ceremony was unique and beautiful. I loved the music and everything was perfect. Victor probably has one of the most gorgeous wives ever! Afterwards, we ate some fantastic food together and just enjoyed each others company until about midnight when it was time to call it a night.
Sunday morning we all had breakfast together for a couple hours and said our last goodbyes. It was sad but i'm happy i got to see everyone and now i can stay in contact and visit whenever i can!
After we left Guelph, Vince and i decided to go explore downtown Toronto for the day. We parked, and walked everywhere. Little shops, malls, everywhere. Then we went to this restaurant that served middle eastern food... Lets just say it was absoulty amazing! We loved that place! The taste is so different than anything we're used to. I could eat there everyday! Toronto's a beautiful city, alll the diversity thats packed into one little area of the world is phenomenal. I could see myself living in a city like that for a little while.
So we wrap up the day, and its time to head home. I'm feeling happy and content... such an enormous amount of adventures going on in a little short weekend : )
