Bonjour!
Yesterday was so much fun, but it was lacking something...I didn't eat any traditional french food and France is KNOWN for it's amazing french food, so I just had to have a traditional dish. I asked a few locals(with my new found knowledge on the french language! (: ) where the best restaurant in France is to have some traditional french food and they all said Au Fer Rouge which is in Colmar France. This presented a small problem, it was a 4 hour drive! So, I got a car and decided I'd spend some time in Colmar for the day. Once I got there I went into Au Fer Rouge and of course the appetizer was a baguette, which is delicious, the best bread I've ever had! I think the best was the main course, a food called, Tarte flambée. Cool word right? It's so much fun to say! Anyway, what it is, is it's like pizza with onions, bacon and cheese! It's THE best thing I have ever eaten, and I will never be able to compare another slice of the school's Domino's pizza to the Tarte flambée I had today! The icing on the cake, you could say, no pun intended..lol, anyway, like I was saying the icing on the cake for this meal was the dessert, which were Madeleines. These little small cakes are adorable and are like heaven to eat! Now that I'm finally finished describing my meal, are you hungry yet? Well, if you want to make yourself hungrier, I snapped some photos of everything I ate!!! Not just to make you jealous but because I'm going to try and recreate this meal, although I have a gut feeling it will be an epic fail...oh well.
Anyway, continuing to tell you about my time in Colmar...Are you still there or did you get yourself something to eat, just in case I brag about another delicioius meal I had...I promise I won't...then again you can never tell with me...hmmm....
Back on track! After the meal at Au Fer Rouge I had to do a quick research on some places to sight see and maybe even an activity to do. I finally settled on cycling around the city. I rented a bike and met some new people too. They offered to show me around, so we pedaled around the town, which the sights to see are about as lovely and amazing as the food they serve! We traveled along a path, I later will learn was Route du Vin. I also learn there's a food and wine festival, mmm the food sounds amazing, but I unfortunately don't have the time to attend the festival. I am going to a Medieval festival while I'm here though, I'll post more about that soon! Back on the topic of my bike ride, it was gorgeous and Colmar is definitely a town I'd recommend visiting if you have the time!
Salut!
Allison
