Well I've finished my three weeks at the Community Volunteer project, mucking out turtle tanks and getting drenched with a fire hose of sea water (one of those been there got a very mucky tshirt, wont be doing again experiences), taught my little 'cheeky boys' some English and helped some lovely local women weave baskets and bracelets from sedge. They interrogated me as to why at 24, I wasnt already married and I said in England its far too young to get married, I want to travel and see the world first and said I had quite enough male friends at home (to which they were once again horrified as that's not the done thing here - as I learned when I went out for drinks with some of the local boys who worked in the hotel)
My plans also have changed, some of you reading this will know that due to the trouble in Thailand, the Foreign Commonwealth Office would not allow British people to travel there unless they had Essential business. So last week, after some stress which I won't go into, I decided to spend an extra month here instead of spending an extra month in Hong Kong.
I've found a rather nice hotel right next to the beach with a pool, so I am going to spend at least the next 2 weeks chilling out after doing 7 weeks of volunteer work. I'm not complaining, there are far worse places you could get stuck in the world, I was just a little disappointed as I was due to get some visitors and had a great itinerary planned for when I was there. These things happen, I consoled myself with a night of cocktails and the pain eased very quickly!
I met some lovely English people whilst I was at the Community Volunteer project, Alison and Sue who almost became ''surrogate mothers" and were great company. They left me with some much needed Fast Bite medicine for the mosquitos which I had run out of and also a beetle drive game which kept us entertained on a few nights at the volunteer house. Caroline is still at the Project, but will be coming to meet me next weekend to have some time by the pool and beach (and maybe just a couple of drinks)
I've acquired a taste for the local 'Lion Beer' and cocktails here at the hotel, and some of you will have experienced my drunken calls in the early hours- sorry about that! I've also met a guy here, its not a 'get your wedding hat' out situation or anything, but we are having a lot of fun and I'm very happy. I guess these things can happen when you least expect it!
I will be here now until 11th June, when I depart for Hong Kong on the 12th June (well that's the plan at the moment anyway). More pictures to follow shortly.
Missing everyone back at home, gotta run my first pina coloda of the day awaits!

Gina B Enjoy the 'chill out' Jenny after your work, wise move to stay put - no point placing yourself in a high risk location! Very pleased for you, meeting some like-minded guys. Met up with Mum who took me to Wicked Lady for a delic birthday lunch. Expect you know you're missing a cold Spring here so soak up that sun for all of us! Love from the Billinghams xx
