So...we're back in Bangkok...again!!! Had quite the journey here last night - left our hotel at 2pm and boarded our boat and set off at 3pm. It was one hell of a bumpy choppy 3 hour boat ride there during which we were convinced that our suitcases were going to have fallen overboard so we were desperately trying to decide what we would need to buy/replace if we ever reached dry land!! When we arrived at Chumporn we got to choose whether we wanted to board the 7.30 bus arriving in Bangkok at 4am or the 8.30pm bus that arrived at 5am. We opted for the second as thought it would be a slightly more acceptable hour of the day to arrive back in the City. So we ended up playing cards where I taught 'Trumps' to Sarah, Ben and we be-friended Dorian - a solo English traveller, and Dayna - a solo Californian traveller - It passed the time a treat (and I won - yes family I ACTUALLY WON!!). So by the time we got to board our bus there was only about 12 of us left and we were asked to get on this rickety joke of a van/wagon (at this point we were genuinely worried that they were going to attempt to take us all the way on a 10 hour journey to Bangkok!!) Luckily it dropped us off at our VIP bus about 30mins later and we were all told we had to sit together at the back cos the rest of the bus was for Thai people. So after discovering we had blankets, goodie boxes and food vouchers, we set off gradually picking up Thai people on the way. At midnight we stopped and were hearded into this brightly lit canteen by this small plump lady screaming down a megaphone in Thai. We all huddled around this table and were served up rice soup a.k.a. a bowl of rice with the water it has been boiled in. In the middle of the table were a selection of tiny fried SALTY FISHY fish, some sort of chicken, SALTY/rotten eggs, and some sort of stewed vegetables. So being a table of tired English travellers - we found this absolutely hilarious and spent the whole time in fits of laughter at the absurd situation we found ourselves in. After that back on the bus we got, and arrived in Bangkok at 5am. Sarah, Ben and I got a taxi to our 'guesthouse' which we had to trawl down a dark dingy street to find, wake up the grumpy receptionist woman who barely spoke English but managed to mutter that we couldn't check in til 1pm. In desperate need of sleep we tried the neighbouring hotels who were trying to charge us appauling prices for 6 hours in a room. Just as we were on the verge of giving up/I was on the verge of a full on tantrum, I managed to find a little hotel tucked away down an alley. Thank heavens for the Makkasaan Inn - they gave us a nice, clean, king sized en-suite room, with a hot shower, flushing toilet and a fridge for the rest of that night and for tonight for GBP6.50pp...it was like we'd finally found heaven!! So we managed to get a few hours sleep before heading back into the big bad city of Bangkok to try and arrange our next adventure. Currently back in Khosahn road having booked our next epic 16hour coach journey for tomorrow night to Laos - bring on the river tubing!!!

Mumsy Wow Janey .. I thoroughly enjoyed reading that !! Very entertaining and bring on the Whitworths winning trumps !!! I want to join in the hysterical laughter , I can feel myself just smiling as I read it !!
Dads I dont think I would have liked the boat journey (seasick material for me!) Well done for forwarding the Miles/Whitworth Trump tradition to the Orient. The food actually sounds quite interesting to me, Jessie you have got to try differant foods now your not in England. Enjoy the next stage of your Holiday/Adventure/journey through hell/life changing experience. LOVE DADS
Floof the bit at the end of not having anywhere to sleep is the funniest bit, bet you're glad you don't have me with my travelling jinx there; you'd genuinely have had to sleep on the street with an elephant and a blind child.
