Day 3 it's a long hike today, 7 hours in total. 100m in and I'm shattered, I have no energy and am starting to feel nauseous as we head above 4000m. I can't stop as I feel so ill when I do, so I plough on slowly with Albert our guide. I'm second in to get to Lava Tower which is at 4600m and I can't believe I have made it. I'm shattered and all I want to do is sleep. Unfortunately it's just a quick lunch stop here to help us acclimatise before heading down to Baraca camp at 3900m. The descent down starts very steep and has ice covering the boulders, now I'm concerned as I have no strength and a slip here could be fatal. I manage it downhill and across the stream before heading up briefly before descending again. I'm practically running down the hill covered in boulders just praying I don't take a wrong step. Finally I see the sign for the camp and relief doesn't even cover how I feel. I go to my tent and have a bowl of hot water to wash in before we have dinner and relax for the evening.
