Hey again!
so after the longest car drive EVER from mayapur we made it to Kolkata. that place is nuts. like i cant even describe the level of crazy there, people are driving all over the place theres people bathing in the gutters shops everywhere made from nothing its hectic! we got the the train station and after finding what part our train would leave from headed to the toilet, we wanted to change into some crapper clothes so we didnt stick out and pee in the 'nicer sides' toilets before our 7 hour train ride. janavi had told me how horrible the train toilets were so i wanted to avoid that! anyway when we got in there i almost freaked out! like i was shaking and on the verge of tears the toilets were so nasty, the strong smell of pee and god knows what else was everywhere and the squat toilets were filthy. i do not have the leg muscles or skill reuqired for squat toilets, especially in a big arse panel skirt with petticoat, however after scouting out the decentest one (the one with no poo on the edges or used santiary products) i threw my skirt over my shoulder and had the worst pee of my life in a dark stinky squat toilet. GOD IT WAS AWFUL. hahaaha. anyway then we had a two hour wait for the train and the enquiry office said it wouldnt appear on the board untill 30 minutes before, we stood the hole time because we didnt want to sit with the locals and i had to yell at a guy for taking photos of me (ive heard some nasty stories of what they will do not limited to but including the internet pornos and voodoo :/ ). after asking about our train a 4th time they tell us its not going to be on the board so we'll have to listen to the announcements.. in indian!?!?! luckily a nice couple next to us let us know and we struggeled through the crowd of stinky pushy indians with out huge bags to the furthest platform..naturally. luckily our carriage was the first one and after preparing my self for the worst i was pleasently surprised by the aeroplane like interior with two seats quite spacious a fold out table even electrical sockets. We got two meals, a samosa sandwhich and juice, and a dinner with two sabjees rice chapati and a sweet along with a 2L bottle of water - good for like $18. the train ride was long and boring but i enjoyed watching all the little villages along the way india is truly a beautiful country. we arrived at 10pm wchich was scary but we jumped straight in a aut rickshaw which is like a motobike with a carriage and straight to a hotel we booked for one night. the hotel we found in the lonely planet book was quite expensive 1250ruppes (divde by 40 for dollar value) but although simple had a huge bed, tv and a private bathroom with a NORMAL toilet and HOT water. yay. we ended up staying for 2 nights because we didnt want to check out early and the late check fee was extortionate. they were super nice though and we had dinner there the next night on the roof top restuarant. quite nice. they also had a huge dog that walked around barking at people outside like a guard dog but he poked his head in our room for a scratch a couple times so cute.! then we moved to the z hotel where we are now, we stayed one night in a nice room with ensuite but they only had it avaliable for one night so now we're in a 7 bed dorm with shared bathroom! ekkkk buts its only 100ruppes or $2.50 a night and theres only one other occupant a nice swiss lady. the only downfall is no hot water. but they have a nice common room downstairs with a huge flat screen and tonnes of movies so we can hang out there and they will bring resturant food to u anywhere outside on the verandah or on the couches so good! and its fenced of and back from the road for secruity, and houses a mum with three cute puppies! the worst thing is it doesnt have glass windows, just bars and fly screens so its veyr loud at night :(
oh and dids im almost finished the second of the magacian books! lucky i packed all three! We went down to jagganth mandir one day a huge temple we westerners arent allowed it but its beautiful from the outside and we got a good view from the kings resturant a few stories up where we had a yummy indian lunch! we hired a scooter aswell for two days and one day drove 38km to the sun temple at konark and back! it was so worth it though so pretty and we hired a guide who filled us in on the architecture and history, it was full of intricate sculptures of animals and the kama sutra.. which he went in a little but too much detail for my comfort zone lol. awkardddd. anyway we had a good lunch there and headed home. the views on the way there were spectacular its all wildlife sanctuary and we names it canadian india because some parts where the river hits the huge green fir trees do not look at all like india! but both our cameras died so we couldnt get many pictures :( thats mostly what we've done here other than the occasional dinner and look at the night markets, we'e going the zoo hopefully tomoro where they have tigers whoooo! we're here till thursday then taking a night train back to kolkatta and plane to jaipur!
love and kisses to everyone! xxx
