Jess in Europe
Ciao lÃ!
Wow, the Italians... where to begin. There train system sucks, the talk SO much, the hotel staff are a******s, it is humid with no beach, but it is beautiful. Its funny that I am not such a fan of Italy so far, because Evann hated France.
Lets see where I left off...
After topless sunbathing for the afternoon we ate dinner and headed out to this Aussie/Irish bar. I am not going to lie, it was slightly dissappointing. No footy on the TV so not as many Aussies. In a bar full of Irish and Aussie's the ONE french guy managed to find me and salt my game. He kept carassing my hand and trying to tell me about my love line on my hand, saying things like "your eyes remind me of swimming in the ocean" I am TOTALLY serious, I couldnt make this s*** up. All the while evann is getting hit on by the OTHER lone French guy in the bar, but I believe she was secretly laughing at my French man and his cheesy words of "love" because he chose the ONE girl in the bar that is NOT a fan of cheesy... I "went to the bathroom" and Evann and I called it a night early at about 2am. It was nice to actually get some sleep!
We checked out of our very nice plush Plaza hotel sadly at 12pm and headed out to lunch, I love the French meal times, they are yummy. The French know food. Seriously. Anyway, thankfully the Plaza holds your bags until your train or plane leave, so you dont have to drag them around with you! It is too hot to do that!
We caught a taxi to our train station, I couldnt convince Evann and Maryann to walk to train station, I guess it was really hot. Evann and I rushed to the internet cafè to cancel the hotels she had prebooked, then ran back to the train station because we only had 20 minutes to find our platform, go through the weird security line and drag our bags up and down the stairs and get on the train in the right compartment and seating section.
Lauren would understand the crazyness that comes from Italian train. Maybe I should list them...
-they dont announce the stop so you have no idea when you should get off
-the airconditioning is pitful so you sweat the whole time
-they cram 6 people in one compartment
-Italians talk, A LOT. I swear they are reciting the entire bible word for word constantly, thats how much they talk
-The smells, thats all I can say about that
Evann and I actually when a little bit hysterical on the train. We created our own travel journal named it "Ass(W)hole" and laughed hysterically the ENTIRE way writing about the crazy things we saw on the train and passing it back and forth. At one point the woman sitting next to Evann actually got up and moved. Which only drove us into more hysterics. We have decided that all you can do is laugh, being irritated and frustrated does not get you anywhere.
So we get into Pisa about 9pm (our train was supposed to get in at 8pm) Apparently Italians dont care what time they get anywhere, their trains are ALWAYS LATE!
We get to the hotel, which was orgionally booked for 2 people, big whoop though right? it is a king bed, the 3 of us all fit in the one in Nice, no biggie. Well apparently at this hotel it IS a HUGE deal. OY! They got upset which pissed off Evann, who told the Italian reception girl EXACTLY what she thought. It was 10pm at this point, Italian pay phones are HORRIBLE (which is why I couldnt call you Katie!) , I didnt know how to get to the hostel and a cab ride is expensive when you have luggage. The hotel wanted to charge me 95£ a night for 1 room that I was only going to be sleeping in for 7 hours and then checking out and it wouldnt even have my own bathroom.
Thankfully Evann's b****yness fenagled the price down to 40£ and I just got a room. The plan tonight is to TRY and book a bed at the hostel, but if that doesnt work, then we are going to try and sneak me into the room. :) So if I call from an Italian jail anyone, dont worry, I just snuck into a hotel room! :)
This morning we took advantage of the breakfast buffet and now we are trying to book the next few days, which i think are going to be Rome, Naples and Capri (the Italian Rivera) then Evann and Maryann are headed up to Paris (where she flys out of for 3 days) I am going to either continue to bum around the beach or head to Florence and Tuscany for 3 days, then meet up with Evann up in Venice. We will work out what is next after that! I really want to go through Germany and Amsterdam before London again to fly home!
I cant believe my trip is over half over... :( It will be weird to be home! I miss you all, but I have finally gotten used to bumming around here! :)
