I just got back from a 3.5 hour walking tour of the city. Right now I'm trying to warm up my freezing fingers. I think I've been spoiled since I got to London because I never expect it to be this cold when I get places. Last night it rained here! And when it rains in Paris apparently it really rains (unlike London). The point is it's cold but luckily I'm prepared with a sweater, scart, coat and gloves (although I forgot them this morning in the hostel).
Stephanie and I are really lucky. We're staying at a lovely little hostel and we have our own room together and it's not too expensive. The shower is small but it's ours and no one elses and we get clean towels every morning. We also have our own heater and a million blankets (which is good since I'm always cold).
Last night after resting up Steph and I went out in search of a resturant that we never found but ended up at a nice little cuban resturant instead. We didn't know what we were ordering but we took a chance and got some amazing food anyway.
Let me now say something about the language barrier. Don't come to Paris without first studying even the tiniest bit of French. It's embarrassing and really unacceptable. I mean French people are actually a lot nicer than I was excepting them to be, but still. Anyway previously in the day while Steph and I were waiting for our hostel to be ready we sat down for a quick bite to eat and Steph was not having it. She was like "I don't know...hahaha..." and it was just embarrassing. Anyway I have a little phrase book that I've been using and the waiter was really patient with me and sort of laughed at me in a kind way for trying. I actually really like trying to speak French...and in reality most people speak English if you ask them to (in French of course).
That out of the way we are having a great time. It's so weird seeing the Eiffle Tower in real life. And the thing I've learned from all my travel so far is that every major city is like every other major city, in that, you don't know your in Paris, London, Barcelona, New York...etc until you see a monument signifying where you are...it's comforting kind of. Though I do like the monuments and the museums.
After I get off this computer Steph and I are heading over to Norte Dame to check it out for a while before heading back to our hostel to warm up. Then we're heading to the Lourve which is open late on Friday nights to people under 26 for free. We'll probably be there for about 3 hours (we've got to plan what we definately want to see because it's impossible to see everything and it will make us crazy).
After that I think we're going to head to the Eiffle Tower again to get pictures of it at night...it's supposed to be spentacular.
Tomorrow more Paris...we're planning every night so I'll let you know tomorrow about what's on the plate for tomorrow.
