Having driven through Holland and roughly 300 miles , we've made it to Hamburg! I've been hearing lots about this city... culturally it's meant to be great! Driving in, it's a busy port, 3rd largest in the world, but as you enter further into the city it looks very affluent and green. We've ended up at Elbecamp, which feels like a festival in the middle of the city. It's set in woodland, by the River Elbe and has a hippy vibe. It has its own sandy beach, but swimming not recommended in the river as recently there's been a few dangerous incidents, (plus it's probably as clean as The Thames). The play area for the boys is lovely, wooden pirate boats, hammocks in the trees and a great tree house style cafe serving every kind of herbal tea and of course beer! It's very laid back here, everyone milling about with a beer or a cuppa, chatting and watching the kids play. Perfect for a couple of days!
