As Kirstin knows, I could live of sushi if I was able to, yet I've always been a little reluctant to buy sushi from either coastal towns or the mountains. This is not where you find your typical asian restuarants (that you walk out of without having gotten food poisoning anyway), nor am I confident in the ability to have fresh sashimi transported up the mountains and still be fresh once it enters my mouth!
However..!! Since leaving Vancouver on the 24th November, I was pushing 2 weeks with no sushi and withdrawal symptoms had definitely kicked in. I convinced some of my house mates to come to 'Sushi Village' (original name considering it's in Whislter Village and all) to try out some sushi to see if I will need to be making regularly visits to Vancouver to get my sushi fix!
What a success it was! Was beautifully presented (similar to Wagaya) and was full table service. The food was fresh and tasted great! Besides the 18% tip we left, I was thoroughly impressed and will definitely be going back. Renate struggled with her chopsticks but she put them in her pocket and now practices at home so she will be a pro next time we go back!
Since arriving in Whistler I'll admit I've been drinking more beer than usual, but I still hadn't had a night where I woke up with a hangover the next day (I think that also has something to do with the fresh mountain air)! So I went to the local liquor store and picked up a 750ml bottle of Amaretto for a low $17!!! What a bar-GAIN!!
Living with a bartender, Jack made amaretto sours all night whilst we played several drinking games before deciding to head to the hot tub. Jess (with her uni degree paying off and all) decides to where her ugg boots to the hot tub as she wanted to keep her feet warm. Before we go any further however, please note that the hot tub is a 3-4 min walk away across an icy road, through somebody's backyard and across a white blanket of ankle/knee deep snow!
So we set off to the hut tub to get about 50m from the front door before I go ass over tit and fall flat on my back on a slab of ice.. Don't worry though, the amaretto sour that I was carrying was still upright even though I was splattered all over the road! Note to self - wear proper shoes next time!
So after all that partying, I finally decided to get a job to help support my further travels and my first day cleaning starts tomorrow! I'm actually looking forward to a job with zero pressure/responsibility/need to use my brain! On a positive note though, I also received a voicemail from the Ski School for holiday jobs so hopefully i'll have an interview in the next few days for that also!
The Ravenscrest crew is also in the process of getting a Christmas tree in the house. We all have our chocolate calendars thanks to Espen and Renate and we put together our gingerbread house last week so now the only thing missing is the tree.
Espen the silly Norwegian is of the opinion that he will be able to chop a tree down out the back of our place with a kitchen knife! Phil has bet him $2 (hey big spender) that he cannot succeed and I think I'm with Phil on this one! Once we get the tree however, we have no decorations so I think the concensus is to put Wildcat cans (the team Ravenscrest beer) on the branches as decorations! (Mez, we may even give your tree a run for your money)
Well that's me for now, I'm off to do some cleaning, skiing, drinking, and am even heading to the luge championship this weekend hopefully.
I have tried uploading some photos but am having some technical difficulties, so I will try again in the next few days!
Hope you are all well back home xx
