Helo everyone, we'v finished playing tarzan and jane!! this was an interesting trip...first we gotpicked up from the station, and dropped at the wrong hotel, claiming it was the right one,the driver left. we knew it wasnt right so went inside, spoke to the guide who was taking us,then he got us a different driver. So all we knew was we were to b picked up at 9am the next day. Arrived at what seemed a very grand hotel, and the 'concierge' took our bags to our room!! were very tired from the rickety train ride,so did a small bit of sightseeing then went for an italian:)
Picked up at 9.30am,taken to other places to collect other people.then drove to tourist police, who checked us out said they'd help if there was any trouble...then on to a market where greg bought a crazy hat-would show picture but its not working at the mo,so will upload soon. then we arrived at an elephant park and got on this elephant and it took us for a walk, the rest of the group were on other elephants-u'l c from the pics.so we set off, wobbling from side to side, getting sneezed on and our feet were brushed by the elephants ears. They are amazing creatures and very strong!! we fed our elephant bananas whilst it washed from a water trough-and we got SOAKED!!!
We then went trekking for about 2 hours, up and down and up and down on these jungly paths which led to a river and some wooden huts where we would b staying. We were so hot wee all went swimming in this river and drank beer, then put loads of mozzie stuff on but despite that still got bitten!!we ate tea, had a camp fire, and went to bed. It was the worst nights sleep i have ever had in my life-still suffering now!! greg says he slept ok ish!! next day breakfast, the pineapple is amazing here!! 3 people left as were only doing 2 days, whereas ours was a 3day trek-we should have done 2days!! we walked for AGES greg went swimming in this river we stopped at but it was FREEZING so i couldn't get in!! that evening we stayed in a hill tribe village, very remote, and different to anywhere we'v seen before, is sad though as they hardly make any money they sell what they make by hand and some money for the room we slept in i think... we had some food, and it was a sons birthday, and the whole family sat around saying the rosary-they were a Christian family and thats what they do apparently!!then gave out some treats i suppose-weird crab crisps!!!then bed time.
Next day we walked to a bamboo rafting place, we went on one down the river, wasn't all that exciting, greg had a go at poling?!one opf our guides fell in at least 5 times!!was very funny, going down the river it was like a mini theme park, all the children in the water playing and then splashing us-even though we were in clothes!! we went past some elephants that were in the water, thought we were going to crash into one and it was going to go mad-but luckily it didnt!!we were then driven back to ourhotel.
Last night was sunday, and there is a street called the sunday walking street-where there is the main street and loads of side streets FULL of poeple with their stalls, sat on the ground with bracelets,lamps,food,t-shirts,shoes,hats,umbrellas,sun glasses, anything really!!u just barter for a price then buy, was packed...so today we have hired bicycles so are seeing more of the city and staying in a cheaper guest house which is much nicer than the hotel we were in:D
WOW that was long,we dont have any fixed plans yet,but maybe to go back to Bangkok tomoro evening on the bus as is cheaper and maybe quieter than the train...then we'l see, lots of love to u all, feel free to leave any messages is really nice reading them xxxxxxxxxx
