I met a beautiful Nepalese woman today, Lindsey (western translation)
She has lost her entire family network through violence, with the exception of her six children still under her care. I felt terrible for this woman and asks he how she had managed to support her family without her husband and brothers to bring in an income. She wasn't resentful or negative about the difficulties life had thrown at her, the simple answer she had was as long as her older children and herself could bring in enough money for a roof over their heads and food, they were happy- happy just to be together.
That's what life is really about she said. Love over money.
She then recited to me the following Buddhist teaching:
The core buddhist vision of impermanence:
Thus shall you think of all this fleeting world,
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream,
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, a dream.
Food for thought I think.
