Vienna
After finishing being a tourist in Prague I headed back to the campsite for the night. We went to a bar called Happy Land where the 0.5 litre beers were just 50p!! Madness!
The next day we all packed up and headed towards the Austrian boarder, this time crossing the border was fine but we could not reach our selected campsite because of road works and bridges, (and 4m tall 20 ton truck is not the most nifty thing to get about town!) So we took the scenic route around town to the only other campsite and stayed there. The campsite is 13K outside of Vienna so we all stayed at the campsite for the evening sharing beers and stories. It was a good opportunity to chat to the few people I had not yet and was a good bonding session for the group generally.
En route to Austria we stopped off at Ossuary, with the a church filled with bones. They were arranged around the place in pyramids and decorations and there was even a chandelier centre piece that used every single bone from the body! According to the info there are bones from30-40,000 deceased in the church and it really wasn't that big at all! A very strange but interesting visit!
As we were staying for two nights in Vienna we had a late breakfast the next day at 8am. I then did my first lot of hand washing before heading into the centre.
After a bit of faffing we got to the city centre and explored what is an amazing city! I really loved Vienna and would be keen to visit again. The buildings which were built hundreds of years ago are clean and look as if they were built yesterday! I took plenty of photos and ooed and ahhed a lot throughout the day! The sun shone all day too which meant that ice cream and pleasant strolls were in order.
I headed back to the campsite to have a quick shower before undertaking my first cook duty! I was looking forward to cooking and knowing how everything works etc, but it didn't happen………in classic Nicole fashion I managed to injury myself within a minute of picking up a knife to chop cabbage! I was now out of action with a fresh gash in my thumb and had to sit and watch looking like an absolute numpty with a bandaged thumb and a yellow stained hand from iodine! You can imagine the ribbing I got! And some how I just knew that I would be the first to do something really stupid. The only compensation was that Stuart (also in my cook group) joked loudly seconds after "that's a good way to get out of cooking, I might try it myself1"Well you can guess what happened, two numptys to laugh at!!! Ah well.
I rather awkwardly packed up my tent this morning and now we've crossed the boarder to Hungary. We've just stopped for lunch and we should be in Budapest in an hour or two. I can't wait to chill out in the thermal baths and make sure both I (and as many clothes as possible) are squeaky clean before three days of bush camping though Romania.
I've added a few pictures of my trip so far I'll post more soon!
Love from Nicole
P.s Nicola no one on the truck believes me that Hungarians ducks say "hap hap" and frogs "rekekeke".
