This is the first time that i have written on this,o this will be a longish entry, Rat and I have now been travelling for 15 days, 10 days of which was spent in Bali.
Bali 1/12 to 12/12
Once we arrived in Bali we got a taxi to our hotel in Jimbaran, Sagi Sagara, which is approximetly 20 minutes frim Kuta. Jimbaran is a lovely fishing village, very little tourist though, so there were loads of hawkers trying to get us in to their restaurants. This got very annoying after awhile.
It was whilst we were here that we made our first mistake, ordering FISH! US brits are use to ordering a simple piece of cod, but over there they charge you for the weight of the individual fish. SO the price on the menu is not the price you pay, its per kilo. Bit more expensive than Philpotts I can tell u that!
After two nights in Jimbaran we moved to Sanur which is about 30 minutes from Jimbaran and 15 minutes from Kuta. we checked into a lovely homestay called Flashbacks, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! 6 bunglow rooms, some with aircon and private bathrooms, but we had one with a joint bathroom and this cost us, 160 rupiah which is about 8 pounds. All the rooms were builtt in around a little salt water pool, in a lovely shaded area. All this came with a lush breakfast, this was a nice change after eating in the last hotel where the food strangly tasted of parafin!
We stayed here for another couple of nights, leaving for Gili Trawangen on the 5th december, this is an island that is just off of lombok. You can either fly from Denpaser Bai to Lombok then get an half hour boat trip or get the ferry from Pedangby which is much cheapier. We took the cheap options which took about 7hours in total, 5 hours on the boat
Gili Trawangen was awesome, lovely clear seas and white sand, with only a handful of bars sprinkled along the shore! PARADISE!! We managed to get a room in a place called hari Puri. these were little wicker rooms on stilts with a shady rest aea underneath and an open aired bathroom ajoined. Very strange sat on the loo look up and seeing the stars. To much detail??
The first morning we bounded out to explore the beach and were a bit dishearted to notice that the tied was out. It was so hot!! there were loads of crabs on the beach which was amusing as rat was determined to take a picture of one, we spent most of the day tying to catch crabs.
In total we spent 5 days on the Gili's, we treated ourself on the last day to a snorkling trip. VERY ENTERTAINING! if not just for the freaks we had on the boat, we had some weird old couple practice some kind of energy, mexican karate!! They looked um interesting!! Snorkling was good and we got to see turtles which was good plus i got to be reunited with my arch enemy the TRIGGER FISh!
We left the Gili islands at 7.30am, unfortunatly we did not get to see dolphins like on the way over, although we did see a floating dead pig! Rat almost fell over board with excitement! we got back to Sanur at 5.00pm, rather tired and bedraggled so straight into the pool we jumped. The pool was salt water and approximetky 3m by 2m so only tiny.
11th November we headed to Kuta for the day, CRAzY!! if you are traveling by yourself then this would be the place to go as it seems that this is where everyone!! in Bali is. For the 10 days that we were in bali we hardly saw any other travellers, Kuta was busier. aparantly not as busy as before the bombings. We went to the memorial for those killed in the bombing. Even though we knew noone it was quite moving to see the rebuilding of one club and the completly flattened area of where the other was.
We left Bali on the 12th November for Singapore, we almost pooed our pants as we turnt into Bali airport and saw a pan with masses of smoke coming from it. Luckerly just a drill!!
