"You've trusted your eyes your entire life but once you visit Cambodia you might start to doubt them"
Cambodia...a country that has gone through so much pain and suffering and is now starting to try and rebuild itself. Yet everywhere you go, people are so friendly and still smiling! I am in awe of this country...the people...the culture...the history...everything! I would stay here forever if I could! Once you start to experience life in Cambodia, you'll start to realise that there is definitely more to life...all those worries, deadlines, stress are nothing.....for tomorrow is another day!
I have been to the Angkor Wat temple and the surrounding temples....mind-blowing....there are absolutely beautiful! Who would have thought that you could relax at the beach in Cambodia but I did just that in Western Baray....it's not so much a beach....but a place where people chill out in hammocks! I've been to the largest lake in SE Asia..the Tonle Sap Lake to see the floating villages....although there weren't so much floating cos it is dry season now....but in the wet season, the water apparently rises 12m....now that would be a sight to see!
My work here is what I have come for and it is going very well....my centre will have their new years holidays starting from next week for 6 weeks so I will be going to teach at another centre. It will be so hard to say goodbye to the kids....but I guess that's what they experience all the time....teachers coming and going....so they can't get too attached. In one of my clasees, the students all want me to be their godmother....and they've been giving me presents...drawings....it's so humbling to receive these from them given that they are at the centre because they are from some of the poorest villages around....so they are some of the things I will definitely treasure!
I've also been doing some teaching in the evenings for a couple of hours...it's just been set up a couple of months ago by a local and the people who also volunteer with me during the day found this place and they're trying to set it up properly....the area this school is in is what you'll find in typical villages outside of town....dirty, worn out houses/huts...along the street, there are plenty of 'karaoke girls'...some I hear as young as 12....so these people are trying to set this school up to give them an education so they can get proper work!
Anyway, right now for me....life is sweet! I totally agree with Forrest Gump....it is like a box of chocolates cos you never know what you're gonna get!!
