The Golden Triangle (Delhi- Jaipur-Agra)
After our work at the orphanage we met up with the other volunteers. There were 3 science teachers Laura, Kate and Emily, 2 American?s named Aniese and Rebecca and also Shelia from Ireland. We began our first leg of the Golden triangle in Delhi. Here we visited many sites in Old and New Delhi including India gate, Humayans Tomb, Red Fort, Lotus temple, Qutb Minar, Jami Masid and central market. Delhi was busy and full of life. It was far bigger than I had imagined and it took a good 2 days to cover all the main sites. In Delhi we were approached by many beggars and sellers. When our car stopped in traffic immediately people came around it to try and sell us goods or beg for money.
After 2 days in Delhi we left early for Jaipur otherwise known as the Pink City. We began our time in Jaipur with a trip on the elephants up to the top of Amber Fort. Once at the top we had a fabulous view over the mountains. We next made our way to the pink city where all buildings are washed in this colour. We saw the Palace of Winds and City Palace. Both were unique in architecture and lovely to look at.
Our final part on the golden triangle ended at Agra where we saw the magnificent Taj Mahal. They had certainly left the best till last! The Taj Mahal was an amazing site and looked even more beautiful in reality than in the pictures I had seen of it in travel brochures. It was a magnificent site and I had to pinch myself that I was actually at the Taj Mahal in India! Wow what an experience!
