Arrived in Gastonia around 12:30pm today to another lovely southern welcome from Glenda and Jim and their cats Phoenix and Smokey. Had some lunch and headed to the White Water Rafting Center about 15 minutes away.
What an awesome complex! I wish they had this in Wagga. Two White water channels, one Olympic standard. Two drop lines, a tree top rope climbing challenge, rock climbing, mountain bike and walking trails and so much more!
Hired some shoes but should have worn shorts over my swimmers (swimsuit, bathers, cossies, swimming costume) as I felt a little exposed (blush) and had to do the surf life saver thing to lessen the butt chaffing!
For my non-Aussie readers, when surf life savers race their boats in the surf, they wear speedos (budgie smugglers) with the butt covers pulled up where the sun shouldn't shine so their butt cheeks are sitting directly on the seats.
Well ... Glenda and Jim sat in the back just in front of our guide Gabe from Venezuela; a couple from Charlotte in the middle; Scott and I were in the front and had to complete numerous additional manuovers to the joy of our team of fellow paddlers during the course of our adventure. So ... over the 70 odd minutes of slip, slide, 2 forward, 1 back whilst being flipped, tossed, turned, thrown, and squished the team were subjected to a number of moon sightings!
Only one paddler was thrown right out and our fabulous team were able to rescue him as per our prior training - go team!
Needless to say, we had a great time!
I decided to get changed before we strapped up for our drop line run as I did not feel like subjecting the rest of the complex to the sight of a flying double moon but ... I only had a skirt with me (can you believe that??) so people did have to cope with the image of my chicken drumstick legs careering across the sky!
Fortunately, there is no photographic evidence of this adventure as we could not take our cameras in the raft - phew!
When we got back to the house we met Robbie who was on his way to work and Leah who popped in to see us and had a nice swim whilst Jim cooked the Baby Back Ribs on the BBQ and Glenda was in the kitchen. Had a quick hello and goodbye with Matt who was on the way out.
Kasey arrived and stayed for a finger licking good supper.
Thank you Glenda and Jim so for having as in your home. It was great to meet you all. x
