As expected the day dawned with clear blue skies and JJ and I prepared for our departure, which included our routine email clearing and as I expected to be back at work next week, for me it included a call to a client and their application planning.
After sampling the fare of the bakery downstairs (previously photographed) we each set out for a couple of hours to revisit favourite or visit new sites and sights, and to do some last minute shopping - we decided there is simply no point in bringing euros home!
The stunning weather and heading south west from our digs across the Academia Bridge made me feel very sad to be leaving behind the charms of Venice with so many points as yet unexplored. Perhaps that is the basis of a future trip ... Maybe when I have ticked off or can't tackle the list of European and other motorcycle trips that are now forming in my head - it might feature.
Anyway, I wandered slowly through not so busy streets, being first thing Saturday also meant that it was easy to observe, look, listen and enjoy. My last coffee was in a restaurant in which they obligingly turned on the wireless when I asked about it - as we had come to expect being able to access wireless everywhere on this trip and I think all but one or two restaurants were obliging, and the exceptions were in cities with great whole or central city free wifi.
Then back to our digs to pack, check out and make our way to the Rialto boat wharf to get our transport to the airport. Fortunately we arrived a bit over 1/2 hour before our 'must catch this one' of the 1/2 hourly service / boat, as the one before that one which left a few minutes after we got there, was full and we were then well positioned to elbow our way onto our preferred boat.
From there everything went well - it was a bit of a slog from the boat wharf to the airport terminal once we disembarked, coincidentally passing the very spot where we had waited for our transport when we transited through Venice en route to Dubrovnik several weeks (which felt like a lifetime at this point) before.
Check in went smoothly (surprisingly my bag was well under weight) and we found a good little restaurant for some last minute wine and a snack before our flight to Dubai loaded and we departed on time.
The Emirates Airlines flight to Dubai was busy but comfortable - but we were again not overly impressed with Emirates' service or catering. I spent this flight mainly watching movies and listening to music - and we touched down safely in Dubai just after midnight.
