Fritz made it to the Alps! The place is in Glanz, Austria which is near Spittal and above the east end of Millstatter See (See means Lake in German).
There is finally Internet out here and I'm completely settled after a bit of an overall on the house (bugs...dust...20-year expired food). I'm enjoying riding my new mountain bike - well actually used but got them at a bargain of 90 Euro each! Been swimming in the lake and pools and done a bit of hiking around the mountains. I even checked out the Porsche museum, Dad, in Gmuend! Figured I should know about the history to make you proud. :)
On Monday, June 21, I went to a summer solstice party up top of the mountain. We parked about halfway up the mountain and took a tractor ride up another 30 minutes to the top. Once up there, it was freezing (prob 30 degrees with a serious wind chill) and there were maybe 25 people there! All older, small-town Austrians wondering who we were. The worst part was the huge bonfire they built that day wouldn't be lit because of the wind! So we said hi to Greti (a neighbor/family friend who helps out with the house), grabbed a beer for the road, and then hiked back down the mountain an hour in the cold. To make things even MORE interesting, we came face to face with a cow!

Dad Wow - those pictures are absolutely fantastic. How long will you be living there? I'd love to bring Shelley over there to see you, Nick, and the countryside. No hikes to 30 degree temps though, thank you very much. If we came over this fall would there be any 20 year old food left by the time we get there? If we wait until Spring when do the nighttime temps actually stay above freezing? May???

Shelley A fall trip to Austria sounds delightful, especially with Jenny and Nick as our tour guides! I'm a warm weather woman though, so I'll have to figure out a way to enjoy chilly temperatures before then.....
