So this has been my first week in new Zealand.
Friday was Chris's day off so he gave me a tour of the farm and we headed to oamaru for lunch and McDonalds then we wandered to the docks and walked round the Victorian part of the town where some people were dressed up in dresses and men in old suits. Some men even cycling penny farthings down the road. Later on after dinner we went back to oamaru and we were planning to see the penguins come in for the night, unfortunate we missed it but we had a walk down the beach and saw a few penguins sleeping which was really cool.
Saturday was relaxing really I tidied up my stuff and found draws to put them in and then cooked a pork roasty. Think it went pretty well for my first roast.
Sunday was also pretty relaxing too made dinner and just generally sorting out stuff. Watched some kiwi Telly was pretty good. I am enjoying living with chris it's pretty relaxed these next months will be good.
Monday I was up early packing my stuff for my holiday with Tom and dad. Then chris dropped me off at where the bus was picking me up. 15 minutes later I got on the bus and travelled to timaru which is an hour away. When I got to timaru I sat in the sun for two hours chilling waiting for my family in our big britz camper van.
We then drove to countdown for our food asking many different people where it was. We bought the food and saw how much space our camper was taking up. Then we started driving to lake tekapo, on our way we stopped at pleasant point for lunch. I it is pretty cool you just jump out turn back around and your home. Then we carried on to the lake, we finally got there and our first stop was as usual tourist information. Think they must know who dad is he goes in one every where possible. Then we took a wander down to a church by the lake which was really pretty and towards a collie statue. Then we wandered back to the village and to the campervan and drove to our camp site.
We parked up and then we got everything sorted and Tom started cooking spaghetti bolognese. Which tasted really good. Then we sat down with a drink in our hands and the usual Grice tradition played UNO. Then we went to bed I was up above the cab which is pretty cool up there.
We all woke up at about 7 ish and had a cooked breakfast by dad which was good. Then got changed and walked to a cafe at the top of the hill where you could look at the stars. It was only ment to take an hour but with toms bloody fast walking only took 35 minutes. Then we had hot chocolates and cake at the top which was really good, took a few pictures then headed on back down.
We got back had showers then started driving to mount cook. Past all the really blue lakes ha.
We arrived and first top .... Tourist information (what a surprise) where we booked in where to stay and booked kayaking on the lake by the glacier. Later on we went for a nice meal at a rustic restaurant, I had a chicken burger was really good. We spoke to the guy called Charlie who was taking us out tomorrow round the glacier. Then headed home for a freezing cold night with no heating.
In the morning it felt like all my joints were frozen ha. But we did have porridge and a cooked breakfast to keep us going.so I got into my many layers as you will see from the photos and headed for the cafe where we would go and kayaka. We then filled in forms and headed towards the lake. When we got to the car park we walked the rest of the way.
The lake looked amazing with all the icebergs on it and it was 300 meters deep no good if you don't like deep water like me. So we spent a few hours on the lake touching the icebergs. A chunk of ice fell off into the lake so the helicopter warned us so we were waiting for a wave to come towards us but in the end it never came which was a shame. Towards the end of our trip on the lake we we hitting an iceberg to get ice for our whiskey but while our guide was doing that he fell into the freezing water so we had to raft up and he sat on me while he sorted out his equipment. Then when got back in we headed back and had our glasses of whiskey. I didn't particularly like it to be honest.
So we headed back and then walked back to the camper had lunch then went for another Grice walk .... Up one of the mountains, I was shattered ha but we got to the sign and rested our legs for a bit then headed back on down back to the camper and headed for omarama where we made dinner and played uno. Then headed off to sleep.
Thursday morning dad cooked up a cooked breakfast again with black pudding yummy, then we all got ready and showered before chris came. When he arrived we sorted out my flights home and changed them from next Friday to September because I wasnt allowed to change them to November which was a bit of a pain. The. We headed for wanaka. It was a really nice place and we all wandered down the lake and walked into the little shops. Then after our magnum by the lake we headed to the camp site where we played on a trampoline and played uno, pass the pigs and card games we could think off. After all that and dinner we headed to bed.
