Ey up me heartys! Jenferoos here!
Well Agra was very nice. And the Taj Mahal was very big and white so thats all you need to know really..
We arrived there after a 45 hour train journey from the south so we were a bit knackered. We got a hostel quite easily (which our guide book suggested has quite a good view of the Taj..) so we jumped up to the rooftop to have a look. What a view we had! Gorgeous! So, we got our dinner and watched the sunset with the call to prayer going on in the background. It was really lovely! We made a pact that the rest of the trip was to start there and then and all the disasters of the south were to be put behind us! (at this point we went to check our emails and colshy found out he'd been accepted to edinburgh uni! so the good luck really had started! well done colsh xx)
The next morning we got up at 5am to watch the sunrise at the Taj Mahal. The queue at the doors were already bonkers and everyone was getting irritated by all the Indian queue jumping and stuff. At one point I said to the woman beside me 'by the way, if you have a bag you have to leave it in the locker outside because they sent me back out with mine' and the woman beside her said in the CHEEKIEST way imaginable 'but I DONT HAVE A BAG' at which point I lost it slightly and said 'I WAS JUST TRYING TO BE HELFUL YOU a*******'. OOPS. hehe. the woman infront of me burst out laughing and said 'im getting that way myself, these idiots send you to the darkside' hehe. Ah that made my day. ...ahem! ANYWAY..
It was really nice and there were people meditating by the river and these huge mad birds of prey everywhere and stuff. They have made this bizarre decision not to let anyone in with a book however so we had to leave ours outside- it would have made for a nice day sitting about and having a read but we werent allowed so with a bit of speed tourism we were out by 8am! From there we went to Agra Fort which is seriously huge. We spent most of the time being lost, but the views of the Taj Mahal from there are phenomenal- with all the dust it looks like its sitting in the clouds.. gorgeous. The best bit was getting to feed some wee chipmunks :) oh and we watched a bat fall from the ceiling and then crawl back up the wall again. I quite like wee bats..
ANYWAY! erm.. so that was pretty much Agra! The last few weeks were a bit of a struggle but the north has been AMAZING so far so its all good in the hood. wooppee!
Righto- better go and quickly do one of these for Jaipur!
