Hi guys,
Sorry we haven't been on for ages, its been difficult to get internet access. We are still having a great time, the safari is now over and we landed in Perth this morning. Lots has happened since we last wrote...
We went further north in Namibia to Etosha National Park where on our first game drive we saw 3 of the big 5, lions, elephants & rhino as well as giraffes, zebra & lots of springbok! It was incredible! The campsite was amazing with a waterhole where you could sit for hours watching the elephants washing themselves & the funny way in which giraffes drink.
Following our stay in Namibia, we went to Botswana where we went to the Okavango Delta which is a vast area of natural wetland uninhabited by humans. The only way to get there was in a mokoro (hollowed out tree) like a canoe with a poler (like on a gondola) which was brilliant apart from all the bugs we got covered in but were too scared to move in case we fell in!! We had a great wilderness experience walking amongst the elephants.
Also in Botswana we went to Chobe National Park, here we did a game drive as well as a river cruise. We saw lots of hippos in the water & a couple play fighting. We also saw buffalos too (4 of the big 5 spotted now)
Day 18 we visited victoria falls in Livingstone, it was very impressive due to its size but unfortunately theres a lot more water there in august, rather than now, the spray from the zimbabwe side looked awesome though!
Once back down in South Africa we had our last stop in Kruger National Park. Although we saw a wide variety of animals in the morning, including hyenas which we hadn't seen before, the highlight of the day was the night drive in thornybush private game reserve where we got incredibly close to the animals as our driver mowed down the trees!! We even got chased by an 18yr old elephant, typical male teenager!
Now we're starting the next block of our trip in perth.
Update soon
