So, after an 11 hour flight and a further 2 hours in crazy bus, I have finally reached Bangkok and my hotel. I was pleasantly surprised to see how nice my first nights accomodation was, but due to an awful bout of jet-lag, I have hardly slept in what will undoubtly be the nicest bed I am going to see for the next 2 months.
Instead I met up with a girl I had planned to see, and we spent the evening walking through Bangkok's main backpacker area. I had certain expectations of what I thought it would be like, and I have to say that it was not what I expected. The area is a confusing mix of cultures, with street sellers serving fried crickets (no I am not planning to try them) outside a Burger King. Although confusing, the area is crammed with backpackers and we had barely sat down for a minute before we got talking to a group and ended up in a different bar drinking and playing pool. Bangkok certainly is friendly, and it does not take much to make friends. Although it is an interesting place, I do not know how long I could stay here without getting tired of the street sellers. Initially it was quite amusing but after the hundreth time of being asked if you want to ride in a tuk tuk or see a ping pong show I started to get annoyed as no, clearly I do not want to see one of your "shows".
Today however, I am off to see some of the sights such as the Grande Palace (see pic) which should be good! Although I dont know how long I will last walking around in this 30degree heat and humidity :-p... how is the weather at home?!
I hope everyone is well and I will keep updating as often as possible, but tomorrow I am heading for Cambodia!
For now.... x
