well am currently in playa del carmen..... had a great time in pulenque til i went out that night and had my bag stolen!! the next day had to be up early to get the bus to merida, which was really nice but i spent the first day there cancelling cards etc! the hotel that we were in was sooo good. was a art gallery as well as a hotel and was basically filled with all these random ecclectic pieces of art and sculptures. there were loadsa cute cats that just wandered around as well as the place was kinda open... the 2nd day there i just wandered down the the zocalo (centre) and bought myself a new bag and purse etc..... was so hot that i couldnt really do too much! that night went out for dinner and then we went to this bar that had a cool reggae rock band on, and we all just sat out drinking pitchers of beer and chilling out. was really nice. despite the bag and dog incident am having a really good time! and now have a couple of cool traveller stories to tell lol! am really lucky that everyone in the group gets on really well, we have such a laugh together and theres a good mix of personalities.
the next day we headed to playa del carmen, via chitchen itza which is the ruins of a mayan city. i been there before and have been kind of ruined out by the previous ones so i just hung about outside looking at the markets etc. when i met the rest i was glad i didnt go, it was an insanely hot day and chitchen itza is so open, and it takes good couple of hours to look round. i dont think my english weather mentality could have taken it!! we then went on to playa del carmen, which im not such a fan of, its very different to the previous places that we`ve been, very touristy. having said that you can see why the toursist industry has boomed around this area, the coast (carribean sea) is absolutely stunning, if u look past all the people. its ok tho and there is some good shopping. it just seems a shame that this is all a lot of people see, there really is nothing here to define that its actually in mexico, it could be any resort! having said that when i first came to mexico it was to cancun and it inspired me to want to see more so hopefully this is a good starting point for some people because this really is a beautiful country, with the lovliest people.
have spent the last few days just lazing round and enjoying the amenaties to be honest! managed to get a good hotel cos the one gap normally use is being renovated so this was the only one they could find. i had booked some xtra nights from home as well, but at the rate of the cheaper hotel so i really lucked out! am loving the air conditioning :) yesterday louise and i went to the beach, rented some loungers and spent the day eating nachos, drinking pina coladas and getting (unknowingly!) burnt. i could get used to it!!
i was still unsure of when my replacemnt card would arrive so delayed mt flight to costa rica til fri, then annoyingly about an hour after i did that DHL delivered it! am just glad to know im not stranded with no money tho! most of the people on the group that im with have now gona home, was sad to say goodbye. those that didnt left this morning for belize. was v sad saying goodbye to louise as we`ve got on so well and become close in the past couple of weeks. hopefully we will catch up later down the line though. so am now alone! have booked myself into a hotel that i found a good deal for online, and am just about to take myself out for some dinner and a couple of cocktails :) thought i may try and get in a visit to the island of cozomel before i go, its supposed to be beautiful with great diving ops. will probably just snorkel but might look into how much it will be to do a day scuba course. maybe isla holbox as well as you can snorkel with whale sharks that migrate there. from around june tho, so while i have a good chance of seeing them its not definate, and its costs about $100 so we`ll see.
missing everyone a lot xx
