Jenn's Trip through Asia
Hello everyone,
Brief update. I'm still in Kathmandu and having a great time enjoying the good food etc. Been chilling a lot and done some shopping (finally!!!), and have also started reading Vikram Seth's 'A Suitable Boy', all 1349 pages of it...
After some days of doing next to nothing, I've now started some sightseeing as well, just visiting my favourite places from last time I was here. And... just to make sure that after all the excitement of the last two months Nepal (my final stop...) will also belong to one of the highlights of my trip... I've arranged to go trekking for two days this week, aaaaah, so I might never see you guys again... Well, it shouldn't be too bad, I think the distance to be covered is 8km a day, so based on my usual walking speed I shud be done in about an hour...
Else... I went to visit the school I used to teach at yesterday. Oh well. It was... weird. It's amazing how generally in Nepal some things have changed fundamentally while others haven't changed at all. The same at the school. Lots of internal politics is going on behind the scenes at the school and I felt that's sort of obvious. I didn't necessary feel that it was the relatively happy place I'd taught it. In fact, it seems like quite a deserted place, also in terms of student numbers.
So yes, that's the update from Nepal. I'll continue enjoying my time here for the rest of this week and then Saturday evening... I will get on a plane back to London. I'm not ready to go back yet, not ready at all. All the BS that is going to expect me, like sorting out leaving Oxford, future plans, arranging everything for my graduation at the end of this month etc. doesn't really appeal. However... I do miss Chris desperately and am also looking forward very much to spending hours a day b****ing about Oxford with my flatmate and hopefully catching up with a lot of you guys. Plus... while this time I'm not missing anything really in terms of food or hygiene (although cooking for myself again will be bliss, yeaaah, healthy eating back on track!), I'm very sick of what I've termed the Princess Di effect... i.e. everyone I encounter all day long wanting something from me, mainly money, or trying to offer me their services etc. etc. I am really very much looking forward to just walking down the street unnoticed again, no longer being seen as a business opportunity or someone who must be sh***ing money.
Thanks for reading, I think this will be my last entry. However, I will try and upload as many photographs as possible when I get back to the UK.
Lots of love and all the best,
Jn x
