So here we go again, its been about a week since my last update but I feel like I have so much to say, surprise surprise!
We spent our last few days in Langkawi relaxing on the beach and soaking up the sun mostly but did sneak a trip to the Langkawi Cable Car in as well. The cable car takes a twenty minute ride to the top of Gunung Machinchang. There are some incredible views both on the way and at the top. With a viewing bridge to walk across you really get the see the island from all angles and it is beautiful. We were picked a extremely clear day which meant we had a fantastic uninterrupted view from the 708m summit.
The cable car station is based in an Oriental Village, containing shops, restaurants, rabbits. As we were walking around we happened to stumble across a man with a 60kilo Burmese Python, as you do. Dan was keen to touch this snake and have it wrapped around him, I was not so keen on this concept, but we met "manta" the snake and Dan kissed him! Photos to follow!! The snake man, who I aptly named had a baby rainbow Burmese python as well which he put my round my neck, there is a very awkward squirmy picture online.
On Sunday 23rd we were spending our last full day on the beautiful Pantai Cenang beach in Langkawi, the day was going very well. We had moved to a nicer room, we had a table and chairs, a remote for the TV, digital Air Con and a brush!! We had moved up in the world. The sun was on form, hottest day since we had arrived and we had hired ourselves sun loungers to lie on the beach, luxury! We were taking a dip in the sea and as I had gone a little deep, thanks to Daniel, so was demonstrating my best breath stoke upon my return to the shore when I felt something on my arm. The sudden stinging pain that followed quickly indicated I had been attacked by none other than a Jellyfish!!! It felt like someone was sticking hundreds of needles in my arm, I did cry.
Dan took me to the shower and washed it off, with water although he did seem keen to wee on me!! I gracefully declined his offer, I popped a bit of savlon on instead. The pain lasted a little while but was gone in a couple of hours. Not something I want to go through again in a hurry.
They are pointless horrible little creatures, 95% water, no heart, no brain and no nerves.
So by the end of our time in Langkawi I had come to the conclusion my bad luck must of come to an end, I had the bites, the coldsore and the Jellyfish. That's 3 surely only good things to come.
We have been in Kota Kinabalu for two days now, we spent the day on Monday travelling. We flew Langkawi to KL then KL to Kota Kinabalu. We had arranged to stay in a hostel called Lucies Homestay. We came straight here from the airport and checked in, the budget had started!! We now have 4 walls a double bed and two coat hangers. The accommodation is very simple but on the pro side only costing us 50ringet a night which converts into about £12, that is for both of us and includes breakfast.
On arrival here we went for a wonder around KK, we went straight to the waterfront. The walk to the bars took us through a mass of Malay food market stalls. A real culture shock. The food that was being served was both extremely cheap and looked bloody delicious!! It soon becomes very apparent being somewhere like that that you are a minority. Every person looks at you as you walk through and try to speak to you. After a day of sitting on a plane it was over whelming but fab!!
On Tuesday we had a day of wondering round the city taking in the atmosphere and finding our feet. Dan has bought a new camera/video camera. I'm well jel. It's pretty snazzy, with some quirky features.
We thought we would break up the day with a movie so went to the cinema to watch Real Steel. Hugh Jackman, my favourite!! It was amazing, brilliant film. Recommend it to everyone! It cost us 11ringets which is about £2.50. Bargain! We followed our day out with steak and margarita, good times!
On our last day in KK we decided to visit one of the Islands in the Tunku Abdul Rahman national park. We caught the boat over to Palau Manukan. The island has beautiful beaches round the outside and thick forest in the middle. The boat rides are always really fun, I love bouncing on the waves in a little boat, they re pretty nippy and the drivers are good fun.
We spent the day snorkelling with the tropical fish, the coral was dull but they had some great fish. Clown, box and trumpet to name a few. Dan made friends or enemies should I say with the trigger fish. They are very territorial, they ram and bite to protect their homes. Very funny watching Dan attacked again! Lol!! We sun bathed and then came back on the boat when the thunder and lightening started. It's a gorgeous area just out the city, I love that KK has this to offer it means you can escape the hussle and bussle very easily.
Our last evening was really funny, we found a great place called BB cafe that served Tepenyaki and BBQ food, we had a mix of fish and chicken which was yummy and very fillings then watched two women take to the stage to do a request show. There voices were really good, brilliant in fact but some of there moves were straight out of a Cindy Crawford fitness video! Hilarious!! I washed the show down with a jug of Whisky and Coke and Dan enjoyed his happy hour beers. Although he was sad to hear that as we are leaving he was going to miss the "beer buffet" as many beers as you like in an hour for £12.50!!! Carnage! (If you're English)
So our time in the City has come to an end and today, Thursday 27th October, we fly from KK to Sandakan. Here we are staying at the Jungle Resort, 5 minutes walk from Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. Which means one thing,
ORANG-UTANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love to you all, be great to hear from you all about your stuff to!
Love Jen and Dan
