Hay everyone! After waking up early, I said my goodbyes to Stephen and Mum and Dad took me to the Heathrow airport! I was so excited although also a little nervous, it was a great feeling. I was finally ready to leave for my round the world adventures!
With my passport, travellers cheques, plane tickets and flag firmly in place in my ruck sack we left 1 St Peter's Close and I waved goodbye to England for what would be 9 months…..
The drive up with Mum and Dad in the Yaris went quickly and once we got to the airport we were directed into a huge tent where we had to wait until our flight was called. Managed to get out The flag and take a few pre -world tour photographs. Dad opened a bottle of pink Champagne for us so we were able to have a quick celebration drinkies before we left English shores!! Our flight was called and we went through to the terminal to check in our baggage. My bag was so big and so heavy. At least after China and the cold spell we could dump all our cold clothes....It took quite a time to check in our bags and once this was done we said goodbye to our parents and went through passport control. It was sad to say our goodbye's but at the same time I had said goodbye to Mum and Dad loads of times before - I was so excited about the trip ahead and I knew they were excited for me to....
The flight from Heathrow-Shanghai took about 11 hours...Managed to stuff ourselves full of aeroplane food and get plenty of mini bottles of Smirnoff vodka (which we snuck into our ruck sacks!).
Once in Shanghai we collected our baggage and got a taxi to our pre booked hostel. It took about 20minutes to drive into central Shanghai. Our hostel was pretty nice, it was great to finally arrive and begin our trip!
That evening we got on our thermals, scarf's and ski coats and walked down to The Bund. Here we were greeted with a magnificent view over the river the the pearl tower. All the buildings were lit up with different colour lights-It was a fantastic site! We had arrived in Shanghai!!! Later we wondered down to Nan Jing Road.
Shanghai is very busy city and also very modern (in parts!). There are taxi's, bikes and cars everywhere, the roads are jam packed and extremly noisey! Take it this way you have to make sure you look plenty of times before you cross the road!!!
Over the past few days we have been working our way around the city on the metro system (very modern). Have visited the old part of Shanghai and also crossed the river via "space tunnel" to the modern part. Lots of very spacage buildings to be seen. We have also travelled on the Maglev which is the worlds fastest train...travels at 401km/h so quiet impressive!
Have been checking out the markets and enjoying plenty of Chinese food! Had a few laughs with food Jo ordered as she is veggie and even if you order veggie food they still bring it with tiny pieces of meat in! Seen some interesting things Chinese people eat such as mini chickens on sticks -literally everything eaten by the Chinese including beaks, claws and eyes...Visited a Chinese garden and tea house...photos online now!
Lots of beggars and feel like a minor celeb`s here as people like to stare at us ALOT! Next we get the ferry over to Japan..takes 2 days so will update more then! Hugs to all xxxx
