Howdy Amigos!!
So I dont appear to have written my blog for a while, Im sure I had done!! Sorry!!
So whats happened?? I broke my nose... we had gone to Lucy's house party, and after too much goon I toppled over, Face first onto the hard stone floor. Its ok - I had an attractive black eye for a while, and my nose isnt mis-shapen to look at but is to touch! and STILL cannot wear sunglasses!!
We have seen Kangaroos.
And not only did we see them, we could stroke then, play with them and feed them!! It was a magical day, it started off with a trip to the Swam valley - yes we made it!!! so we sampled some wines, and some Port, although its not allowed to be called Port, just like Champagne isnt allowed to be called champagne if it wasnt made in a specific place - anyway we drank "tawny" and it was delicious... My favourite wine I tasted was the Chenin Blanc, I think Luke pretty much liked them all... he was glugging away!! I was a little more cautious after my incident... Honestly!! Once we'd had a look around the vineyard we headed onto the Margaret river chocolate factory ( ..in the swan valley - NOT the margaret river!) it was just a warehouse basically which sold extaordinary priced choccies!! And had 3 bowls of 'sample' chocolates, white chocolate, milk chocolate & dark chocolate.... being travellers we thought we would re join the queue a few times and fill our pockets!! I reckon we will have saved ourselves about $20 / $25 on that loot! After our robbery our getaway car took us to Caversham wildlife park, thats where we met the Roos!! They had Red Kangas, Grey kangas and Albino looking kangaroo's all together, they were all sizes too, there were 2 full size beasts, but the majority of them were of a friendly size. The night before Luke & I were watching Kangaroo attacks on Youtube .. in preparation!! but they were harmless, they were hungry creatures, so we fed them, and fed them and fed them, there were also Joeys in pouches!! I didnt think we were going to see a Joey, because when we arrived we only saw bulging pouches wriggling, but then a foot stuck out.... and as I took a picture it turned round & stuck out its gorgeous little head!! We then went to see the lazy koalas, they were all sleeping in their eucalypsus trees, we were able to stroke them, just not hold them, i thought their fur was supposed to be really soft - I have always thought they were cudly things, but it was like stroking an afro! or a sheep! From here we saw the Tasmanian Devil, ugly thing... reminded me of someone back home!! haaaa....And saw a wombat too... weird creature??
Once we'd been around the park we went back to hang out with the Kangaroo's some more...Until they were sick of the sight of us, and as you can see from the pictures we had an amazing trip!! I bought a true Aussie hat too, it is brown suede, it said it was made out of kangaroo & wallaby in the shop, but since getting it home and reading the label - it is cow!! but its still a beaut of a hat!!! Once we got home we headed out for a few drinks because my lovely friend Lucy was leaving Perth, Leaving Aus altogether to go back to England.. it has been a little bit like a relay race, Lucy has been over here for 2 years, and now we have arrived - she has gone.......
All through the week every week we have been working, still at the Research Panel, a few weeks ago Luke was sent out on a door to door mission... All shift I was worrying, knowing he is a terrible map reader & knowing he was going to be dropped off somewhere on his own & had to find his way to his rendezvous point.. I thought that was the end of Luke Denison...
.....It wasnt!! and he did get lost (obviously) but he still found where he needed to be, and managed to get his surveys done & he even enjoyed himself.. We are both doing the recruitments of Focus groups now, so getting people to attend actual meetings and talk about specific topics(and we pay them up to $120 for their time!) - this one is for the department of health, about getting kids to eat healthier & be more active.. Jamie Oliver, eat your heart out!!! Were a little short on a group this week, so im going out to Subiaco to attend the meeting myself, I have to pretend I am a parent of a 2 year old child who wont eat its food - So I am just going to talk about Millie the dog, as though she is my baby & I will get paid $70 CASH!!!!! Its all been approved by the boss, so its ay-OK, Also weve been selling shares to people, offering a package of shares. on the market they are worth $0.051, but we have been offering existing shareholders an exciting offer of $0.05 per share - and the catch.... they have to spend a minimum of $2500.
Enough of that boring stuff.... So the bad weather has well and truly left us, it has been glorious and not a cloud in the sky for a while, so I think that is the worst over - and the worst was pretty good - in comparrison to British Winter!!
Last weekend we met us with Jean & Bert, my relatives. Jean is my Grandads cousin, so it was exciting to see if there were clones of my family back home, living in the Australia... We went to their house out in the Hills, quite away out of Perth, they made their house themselves, so it was the way they like it, their kitchen was very similar to my Grandma & Grandads kitchen, so I felt at home straight away, we spent some time chatting, and showing photos of family over a nice cuppa.. Then Jean took us out to Mundaring weir, which is a resevoir and a dam and also a bit of history too.. Its where the 1st Pumping station is that pumps water 650KM out to Kalgoorie, we walked across the Dam & went to the museum too. Back at the house when we arrived was Jeans youngest son John & Johns wife, Roz. Jean had made us lunch, homemade lasagne & fresh home grown veg.. our first proper meal in 2 months... then for dessert... Home baked apple and rasberry pie and egg custard. Yummy!!! I wonder why I never inheritted the cooking / baking gene?? After dinner we went for a walk out on their land, they are mid construction, they have split their land up and are selling 5, 5 acre plots, these plots will have fabulous views over the valley, I want to live there!!!
Then this weekend gone, we went to Cottesloe, this is the nicest beach I have EVER seen!! it is stunning, we headed up on sunday afternoon, and were just walking up by some rocks & bumped into Mick & Charlie, some friends from work, they were on the rocks fishing... so we joined them, Luke spent ages showing them how its done, and some local fisherman was giving me tips on how to fish... in one ear, and out the other!!
No fish were caught that day by us, but we watched the sun set over the sea, beautiful views but it set so quickly!! So from this point I LOVE AUSTRALIA!! I know I have been grumbling about Perth - it is a very British city, but out of the city & in the sun, and by the beach, it is the dream!!!
Our time in Perth is nearly up, and our next destination is now going to be Up north on the West coast somewhere, were leaving work next Wednesday & hiring a car until Sunday, so going to hit the open road for a few days and see what we find!! we have a few loose ends to tie up here, and our final things to see and do which will take up our time.
Hope everyone has had / having a lovely summer!! and that Big brother isnt taking over it as much as it has done to me for the last how ever many years!!!
Will update again soon!! Love to you all xxxxxxxx
