I was just teasing about the last blog with what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas....
This is what we have been getting up to!!!
The day we arrived it was quite late in the day, after our long drive from San Diego to Vegas, and annoyingly, we were very nearly caught short, and with 2 miles of gas left in our tank when the warning light came on the car, we had to take a pit stop in some seedy casino in the middle of the desert!!! That could have gone faaaar wrong, being stranded in the desert, with hills all around which reminded me of 'The hills have eyes'....... Yes, a nightmare!
After this, and once arriving in Sin City, we rolled on to Las Vegas Blvd, past the 'welcome to the fabulous Las Vegas' Sign then into our 5* Hotel...... Oh yeah!
We have spent our stay in the Signature at the MGM Grand. These are new hotels, which have been added to the back of the MGM, So is more fabulous and luxurious, much more 'new age' Vegas,Very stylish and glamourous... It sort of felt like a crime having our backpacks checking into such a place!
Our Junior Suite is on the 27th Floor, so we have a pretty spectacular view of the valley and the airport.
We dropped our bags and went to check out the casino... we started with a couple of dollar bills.... we didn't want to go crazy and lose everything in the first hour of arriving..... So quickly we learned we would have to think of a strategy...... so retired back to the room for a fairly early night.
The next day we woke up to desert heat, and sun, so took a drive just a few miles from the strip, to a gun shop...... Yes, this wouldn't have been my idea of 'fun' but being with to boys,,, I was outnumbered... so off we went!! We picked our package, and waited our turn. We chose to shoot a handgun AND a machine gun, and with the added extra of a T shirt to shoot too!!!!
So our weapons of choice were as follows:
Luke: An Uzi 9mm & an Glock 17
Joe: An M16 & a Beretta 92F
Me: An MP5 & a Glock 17.
To me, this doesn't make much sense to me, and I doubt it will do to most of you guys reading this, so for you who are clueless like me.... The first ones we fired were the machine guns, so fired bullets really fast and noisily!!! And the second guns we fired were all small hand guns.... small ones, we had 2 sets of bullets in each, i believe these are called magazines or clips?!?! So we shot overall about 90 Bullets.. I think!!!
I was the first one to get a bullseye, and this was very bad news for both Luke and Joe, so they came back with a vengeance, and went crazy firing their handguns to beat 'a girl' s score!!!!! The only reason why I didn't get many more bulls eyes with my hand gun was because i was focussing with my left and and was lining it up with my right........
Both Luke & Joe loved this, and wanted to go back again the following day, but I stood my ground and promoted Las Vegas sights! And we drove out to the Hoover Dam!! On route back we stopped off in a casino in Boulder city, and at our own pace we gambled, and started getting used to it - I so much as put $1 into the machine, and cashed out at $10... Woooooo!!!!!!
So on our arrival back to Vegas we drove down the strip, and went to the 'worlds largest souvenir store' bought some goodies then took the car back to the hotel and we took a stroll along the strip. But only reached Planet Hollywood - which appears to be next door to us..... But it has to be about 2 miles away. The distance is so deceiving!! You think you can walk from one end to the other by looking at pictures, but it is impossible!! Then we decided to have a night in, we gambled in our room. Enough said about this!!!
The next day we all had a 'slight' hangover, and we had to go drop the car off...... After driving round for what seemed like all morning, we found the drop off point, then did the paper work and left our beautiful Mustang behind!!!
I hated driving the car, its FAR too wide!! The campervan in New Zealand was easier to drive.. and actually felt smaller!! It was fast when you floored it, but quite difficult all other times, Luke says its an amazing city driving car, and a rubbish motorway car... which is crazy! Anyway, My dream of being a Mustang owner is over, its just no good!!! Still very attractive to look at, but just a silly car for America... let alone England!!! So once we dropped the car off, we went to the mall and spent a few dollars on new clothes, Yippeee!!!!!!!
Later, Later on in the day we walked to the welcome to vegas sign..... again, it was about 4 miles away.... and in the boiling desert heat, everyone got a little agitated and we got out of the place as soon as we arrived basically, in a Taxi cab.... the good old driver was a little simple, and told us about his recent pick up, an elderly couple from an Island off of the coast of London...... we guessed the Isle of Wight / Man.... then Jersey - which was the correct answer?!?!? He asked us what it was like in England, we said we were from Yorkshire, but this went in one ear and out of the other, and plenty of London questions were then asked......
We spent the next couple of days just wondering around the strip and the casinos, We watched the water fountain at the Bellagio a couple of times, Its just amazing!! The fountain reacts to music so its all in sequence, and is just astonishing, I loved it that much it brought a tear to my eye! We kept missing the Treasure island pirate performance, but Luke and Joe didn't seem to bothered about making it a priority so no big deal about missing it! I have seen it before so it wasn't a disaster for me either. We did see the new and improved Volcano at the Mirage.... but compared to the Bellagio this was a little disappointing!!
Its been a tiring trip to Vegas, and we've been more nocturnal than usual, but its been a fab way to end our trip. Its a shame that it has to come to an end, although were both looking forward to getting home, and spending some quality time with you lovely people.
We have one day left which is to be spent at the grand canyon. One of the 7 wonders of the world.
