Hello again from Phuket!
so its the evening of our last night here, before we head off to the full moon party, and boy have we been busy little bee's! but let me start at the beginning (because starting at the end would be pretty phuketing stupid right?! - see what i did there?!) sooooo....
Wednesday was where i left off, and that evening we took full advantage of room service and the free movie channel and just relaxed...after all its hard work getting a ferry, and a bus, and a coach, and another bus all in one day! however we were slightly organised (only slightly) in that we decided what we were going to do the rest of the week and booed all our tours etc....we are such good girls!
That leads to Thursday, day 66 by the way! we spent the day in a shopping centre. The end. no seriously, we walked around that god damn shopping centre ALL DAY - to the point where we got so bored of the shops that we well, just kept walking round anway but still, we were there a LONG time! why you ask?> well apart from obviously doing some much needed shopping (including getting a 2900 baht dress for 500 in my case!) we wanted to see a movie whilst we were actually in some form of civilisation! and it so happened that Alice in Wonderland was showing that day, but not for like 5 hours, hence why we walked round the place for so damn long! but in our defence the movie was absolutly magnificient! definitly a good choice for the day's activity! and that combined with a good old fashioned pub lunch at a really nice irish bar, what more could anyone want?! one strange little point to mention though...did you know that in thailand, when in a cinema, sitting down with all your sweets and popcorn and drinks, after you have watched the trailers and are completly settled in and ready for the film to start, you have to bloody stand up and honour the bloody king with the national bloody anthem! how messed up is that?!! tres strange in my opinion! they also have a website which i recommend everyone go and visit - www.weloveking.org - how brilliant is that?! why dont we have a welovequeen.co.uk or a queenierocks.com in the uk huh?? its patriotism gone mad i tell you! :P
So, Friday arrived and bad times for me - my diving course fell through. Very bad times! So i was basically stuck in phuket for another week without Alice and without anything to actually do....tres bad times! however, as luck would have it, Alice has also had bad times and has completly been left in the lurch by her friend who she was going to full moon with...sooooo after much deliberating and general 'can we stand each other for even longer' talks, we decided to go to full moon together yay!! and how did we celebrate this i hear you ask? we went to FANTASEA!! Phukets answer to, well, most things actually since its the only theme park / attraction / event of any kind that we could find! it was immense though! basically it was a whole park devoted to elephants!! there were the usual stalls and shops and stuff but also a very strange show that obviously was the main event but boy was it weird! there were 44 elephants involved, some trapeze artists oh and of course chickens sprinting accross the stage! chickens! oh and i say sprinting because i have seen chickens run, these chickens were not running i tell you, they were sprinting and it was actually the funniest thing i think i have ever seen!! the basic story of the show was something to do with thailand, a prince, some swans and a magic elephant (of course) but further than that, your guess is as good as mine! now you may be thinking oh thats cruel to train them and use them for entertainement and stuff, and i might have thought the same, except that the elephants on stage were literally the happiest elephants i have ever seen! they had the biggest grins on their faces the whole time! this one elephant i swear was like high or something, the whole time he was like 'oh my god, im on stage!!! look at me mum!!! oh my goooddd!!' it was tres amusing! and of course the night would not have been complete without the customary 6 course buffet included in the price! and i say six course, its actually as much as you want but we only managed six courses. each. it was beautiful. and afterwards we felt fat. happy, but fat.
Onto saturday. today we decided to be cultural....so we did a cooking class! a thai cooking class to be exact, at Pums cooking school - absolutly amazing, really good fun! there was only 4 of us in the class, me, alice and another couple, and we got to pick 4 dishes we wanted to cook and then whilst they prepared all the ingrediants for us, we learnt about all the different sauces and spices that the thai people use and stuff - very educational i might add, if a little spicy! so, i cooked chicken satay, pad thai, sweet and sour chickn and mango and sticky rice for my four dishes, all of which tasted fabulous if i do say so myself! most of which i think was due to my unmeasurable skill at 'massaging meat' as the cooking woman put it (cant rememebr her name!) she was totally and utterly impressed at how i handled the meat whilst it was heating up (yes i know, it all sounds super dirty :P) but they were her words, not mine! :P so after we had cooked and eaten and cooked again and eaten again, we went to the market to see all the fresh ingriedients and stuff, which was i must admit quite cool actually, and then we came back and cooked some mroe and eat some more. it was again another rather fat day. i like those days :P the evening brought us another trip to Dr. Fish to try and finish off our straggly feet - this time for an hour! they still didnt get the job done! my god my feet are gross, i mean really! wow! and then it was back to the room for an earliesh night watching p.s. i love you on a pirate dvd copy we bought in the back of the dr fish spa place....it had to be done :P
Sunday was our last day in phuket so we had decided to do the whole shabang that was James Bond Island! now i thought at first this might be anything from an island that looked like james bond, or the location of sean connery's secret beach house....but no, infact it was a rather large, strangly shaped piece of rock that was briefly used in the filming of the man with the golden gun. slight letdown i must admit! although we did get some cool shots of us like leaning against it and holding it and stuff, you know those really cool pictures that everyone actually hates where you use the camera to make something look really small....yeah we got LOADS of them! have fun lookng through that particular album! :P so, included in the day we also got to go cannooing round some of the other islands, or should i say be canooed by creepy thai guys again (major flashback to koh sok!), a nice traditional thai lunch on a little island fishing village thing, and a trip to the monkey temple...so a good day overall! oh and even better, we made up a new game! basically, and the rules are quite simple, you think of any music band and instead of the main word in the name, you say penis instead. i call it the penis game. for instance - 'kings of penis', the rolling penis, and destiny's penis...the list goes on...believe me! try it, you may laugh and call my silly but it is actually very entertaining! especially on long bus journeys where no one else speaks english :P
So that was phuket in a nutshell basically! all very entertaining i know! so next time i write should be from ko phangon i think?! shall see you then!
