Yo! from the kok of Bang! (hehe that sounds rude :P)
So, only been a few days since our last little chat, but, an eventful few days it has been, thus i decided to honour you with another entry so soon!
So, if i remember rightly, when we previously spoke i had discovered a few nice bars and hang outs, and generally fallen in love with Khosan Road! Well, on Thursday i slept in BIg time (again!) and then went for one of those lovely thai traditions that you absolutly have to do - a proper thai massage. Now, guide book and friends had already warned me that skinny girls in hotpants standing outside a shop with closed curtains probably wasnt going to be the kind of massage i was looking for, so, with all my common sense and intellegance, i thought the burly looking woman at the massage parlous in the hotel would be a safe bet, right?! wrong. On entering the 'establishment' i was quickly and discretly asked if i would like a 'happy ending' to my massage (boys i think you might know this term!) at which point a VERY nice thai man appeared from the back room looking utterly ready to make all my dreams come true! So of course i figured 'when in rome' and...no just kidding (parents you raised me well :P) instead i shunned the hunky man (first time in my entire life i might add!) and opted for the traditional old strong 'seen better days' woman. he seemed sad but i am sure he has got over it by now! The massage itself was amazing! seriously. Everyone should have one, every day! although it was a bit weird that she was massaging places i usually wouldnt ask to be massaged in a public building...but either way it was great! I did however get a bit of a strange feeling that when i tipped her at the end i was infact tipping a strange woman for rubbing me with oil for an hour...
But anyway moving on! So that day was basically spent getting lost again in little side streets and eating god knows what from any vendor i could find! i definitly ate some insects at one point, im pretty sure they were locusts...tasted like chicken! seriously! weird, crispy insect chicken, but chicken none the less! The next day was my big adventure tourist culture day as i like to call it. Basically i did ALL the sights in one day to as not to interfere too much with my shopping but so i can still show mummy and daddy that im a good clever girl who likes history and cultural s*** :P
The day started very early. i mean so early that the hotel hadnt even started breakfast yet! imagine it - i get a free breakfast each morning and everyday so far i have got up too late for it and now today i was up too early!! not impressed! but anyway, first stop was the floating market. basically it was a massive market...on a river..floating...i mean what the hell right! na it was cool, you took boats down the river to get to some of the stalls and then the others you could walk round to, but it was majorly surreal to see people actually cooking dim sum and pad tai on their boats to sell to people! crazy! but as i said, pretty damn cool! i also got to pet a baby elephant which made me very happy since elephants are officially the coolest animals on the planet and this one was soooo cute! i named him eddie and he is my friend :). After that was a nice buffet lunch (nice not just in taste but also because it was free :P) with my new pals hayden (strange little australian guy who was very scared of ladyboys for some reason...) and jean and don (relaly nice OLD canadian couple, but still very entertaining!) and then it was to the river kwai we went. Now i knew there was a movie about a bridge over the river kwai but its actually areal thing! like ti exists and everything! and they didnt just build it for the film, ooohhhh no, its got like history and s***! crazy eh!
there was a cool little museum to go with it to, basically telling how and why the bridge was built and about all the prisioners of war and stuff, interesting...maybe....graphic...hell yeah! seriously, the thai people have an amazing talent at creating the most graphic disturbing exhibitions imaginable! there was a little side room which told the story of how the bridge was destroyed and everyone killed, but not just written down, ooohhh no, there was a whole display with fake people dying and being bombed and bits of body parts flying everywhere and blood and guts and yeah, you get the image. no? well look at my pics then, i documented it well! after that 'illuminating' display, me jean and don decided to walk accross THE bridge - something that everyone was doing so we figured sure this will be fine. we were wrong. not only is the bridge crammed full of people, there are no side railings to hold onto, the bottom has holes in it and is rotting away so you can actually see that your about to fall to your death, oh and there are trains going accross it! but they dont tell you this even when you are walking directly infront of a train that is sneaking up behind you!! then you have to try and slide past hundreds of tourists on this tiny plank of wood for a walkway and attempt to keep your balence as you hold on for dear life as the train goes by!! it was very traumatic for me as you may be able to tell! But still, i did it, oh and micheal caine lied in the movie - he didnt know s*** about the bridge and he seriously needs to go to that museum :P
Following that, there was a brief and a bit random stop at a wood carving place...very strange....and then finally we got to the tiger temple. now i wasnt sure if i really wanted to go here honestly because i had heard a lot about it and how they sedated the tigers etc - not something i agree with at all, and when i got there is was really clear that they were drugged, i mean i worked with tigers for 2 weeks and trust me, they were drugged. of course i throw my morals to the side for a few minutes and had lots of pictures taken with them, but i was horrified inside...honest...still it was a pretty cool experience :)
soooo lots of photos later and the day was done! the evening i basically repacked my bag for the first time since Africa...not a pleasant experience! i have a love hate relationship with my bag at the moment, and currently, it is not co-operating with me and my clothing/general s*** needs lol basically i have too much crap! ah well, we all have problems!
And that leads to today, ive spent most of the day moving hotel and enjoying the lovely new swimming pool at my latest abode - very hard work :P and tonight i get to meet my new tour group for the next couple of weeks...very strange feeling, to be starting over again with a new set of people...i liked my africa people!! but im sure they will be great...otherwise ill just be drunk, constantly, for the next two weeks...hey i might be anyway!
